Hey, Justified CEO and All.
I'm watching and enjoying every minute of the final season along with you. Just not posting here as often, as I'm dealing with a health issue. I'll post when I can.
Losing a favorite show . . . sucks. There's no other way to say it. We've all invested a lot of time and heart in Justified. But at the same time, I can't imagine my life without it. It brings me that much pleasure.
Many here know, I 'found' Justified online at the end of Season 2, while I was scoping out Kyle Chandler's Emmy competition. Friday Night Lights was in its final season, and I was in anticipated mourning much as I am today. FNLs was another favorite show for many of the same reasons I love Justified: writing, dialogue, casting, acting, scoring, locations, relatability.
Lucky for me the first Justified episode I saw was 'Reckoning.' I was instantly drawn in by the wounded hero, Raylan Givens. And it was another Southern tale to boot. As a Southern girl, I'm a sucker for a good, tall authentic Southern tale. Elmore Leonard's dialogue is the smartest, snappiest, crispest dialogue I think I've ever experienced. I'm not into watching violence for the sake of violence. To me, Raylan and Boyd are so often like the Road Runner and Wiley E. Coyote . . . just good fun. I've so hoped for Raylan, Boyd, and Ava to all leave Harlan alive.
What Would Elmore Do? Makes me wonder. This was his favorite Raylan. He loved this show. He was proud of this show. Could it ever be topped? I'm sure GY, TO and his son, Peter, will do right by Elmore. I worry they may lay it to rest, along with him. Otherwise, I'd predict Boyd gets his in the end, and Raylan walks off into the sunset and the next chapter of Elmore's next novel. Ava? Not sure. She's back to where she started. In trouble with the Crowders. It doesn't look good.
In the meantime, I've waited and watched Connie Britton go on to do American Horror Story and Nashville. Kyle is about to star in the binge-worthy Bloodline on Netflix with Sissy Spacek, Sam Shepherd, and Linda Cardinelli, after doing some short movie roles in some big films. Taylor Kitsch will star in Season 2 of True Detectives with Colin Farrell. Kevin Rankin (Devil) and Brad Leland (Calhoun Schreier) both showed up on Justified.
Like all of you, I will wait to see where Raylan, Boyd, Art, Rachel, Tim, Ava, and Winona turn up next and hope they've earned the right to new shows and movies worthy of their talent.

I've missed you, Dolphin, and hope you're doing better. I've had health issues of my own and it sucks. The awful winter didn't help either. Your feelings are shared by many here. Loved your post. To answer mare's question, yes, I think we can continue to follow Timothy's career. We aren't called "Timothy Olyphant Fans" for nothing!

I echo all sentiments. And you all helped me in my recovery...thank you. So...been thinking...could the deal Raylan offers Markham...be the sale of the givens land in exchange for Boyd? Gives him money to buy a home for his ladies and it is not illegal. Would explain his gravestone being bulldozed?

Of course we can still hang out here! I don't wan you all to vanish. Even is you all are much wordier than me. LOL.
Hey, did anyone notice that when Winona was pleading for reconciliation, ( see want several months of sleep deprivation can do?), that she said something like "I don't care where we live, In Lexington, or in Miami or in the sticks.....?
Just thought I throw it out there...Could they wind up at the Farmhouse? What say you?

Hills not sticks. Guess cousin Mary could find them a place. Still recall Sweeney's reaction to Raylan going to the hills...like he would never come back. Admit Winona reference to the hills surprised me.

Stranger things have happened...

WKW,
SOA was supposed to be "influenced" by Hamlet. As you say, it does - Clay + Jemma - have Hamlet's basic outline. I and others thought that was a visionary approach to television.
While SOA, had its share of being must-see-television, it bogged itself down with everything non-Justified. First, FX gave it more money, episode time, and weekly end-of-the-series specials than Justified. In short, it was treated like Breaking Bad's last season.
SOA's characters, were too often one-dimensional and repeated lines over and over. So much so it was parodied. Justified was its polar opposite. SOA was mocked due to its montages that lasted minutes either/both during the beginning and the end of each episode. Too often sung by its creator's wife.
It's end was so over the top, it felt that it needed, at its end, to turn drama into a ego-driven operatic finale. Justified - GY - doesn't need this insecure kind of ending.
In short, SOA was a part of my FX fall fix. But I too often cringed, due to often repeated lines like "brother". If classic drama is about succeeding and destruction due to hubris ... the show and its writing succumbed to the same forces.
Having said all that, SOA was a great show that was over-hyped. In contrast, Justified has been a greater show with no hype.
WKW, thanks for reminding me of the old gang. Too many were lost. If not for you, I would be in the same boat.
My only hope is our little gang can survive, after this show ends. It's hard to find true educated drama fans. Other boards just state stupid things like "I hate Ava". Cherrypicking elements of the show and taking non-dramatic positions based on week-to-week episodes isn't particularly relevant and doesn't consider the full volume of work.
FX - as bad as its forum was - was exactly the opposite. This site is the best facsimile. I will certainly miss Justified. But I hope I don't miss the community of such special people!

That's what I love about Justified, you could watch and enjoy a single episode out of context but there is so much more to it when you watch and digest every moment and remember why something that happened in series 3 is relevant now. It all comes together so nicely.

When he and Boyd were captured Raylan's cousin Mary stopped her fellow hills people from killing him,..saying he was her cousin Francee's boy. In addition she filled him in on drew Thompson or what she knew. Hope that helps.

Admit Winona reference to the hills surprised me. Who is cousin Mary? From Episode called "Kin" in S4. Cousin Mary was Frances' cousin and kept the other hill people from killing raylan ("I see Frances in you.") and Boyd. SHe told them that Drew had been there, long gone. That was the episode with Boyd and Raylan tied up and locked up in a box together, their first meeting in S4. And Raylan ended up handcuffing Boyd to a tree..."I know I'm laughin' " says Raylan.

WKW, For what's it worth - because I know you are such of a fan of TO - going back to Deadwood (which I was obsessed with - enough to watch all the shows with the actors talking over the scenes), TO has a little of Raylan in him. I don't think his motivations are the same as Raylan - childhood - but I think TO's motivations stem from his own personal privacy. During the Deadwood voice overs and interviews ... TO deflects and makes everything sound like its a joke and unimportant. But during the outtakes, when other actors stumble, he is all business. Dead serious. You can tell. Words on a page? Anyone that sees how he acts can tell he is well trained to act non-verbally. Not attached to the show? Again not true. He has admitted to loving getting into the writers "kitchen" where the fun is. If anything, TO seems, when interviewed by people like Conan, a goofy class clown. One of the serious things TO did admit once, is that being a national caliber swimmer, gave him the discipline to not succumb to other actor's follies. This is a man that has been married to the same women since he was young, a father of three and an actor that can nail it every time. He is "money" as they say in business. I have been called that too. And I deflect and self deprecate all the time in the same way. Why? Some people - like me - don't want to say it's hard and have to work hard at it. It's much easier to say it's easy; because we don't want others to see it's hard. Because if we did, that would be admitting that we are insecure and over-compensating. So the right deflection is to make light of it and ourselves. It's simply a self-protection mechanism I probably I learned in school and sports. I worked hard at both. I did both very well. But I didn't want anyone to know. So I wouldn't put stock into what TO said in the interview. Just let his work speak for himself. JC

Having seen and read enough interviews with the man, I agree with all you said. It just seemed harsh to put it the way he did.
In my job, I'm emotionally invested from day one, and in teaching, it's not detrimental to admit that (for men, or women). I can see where that might be something best kept hidden when you have such a public persona.

Been rewatching this last episode...for that baby. As a single old broad who never had children...that baby girl just gets to me. Loved Winona and Raylan with her. Loved how she played with Winona's hair...twisted in her arms while crying...to me she was even cute when screaming. Loved how Raylan reached for her not once but twice. There was a warmth to him we have sort of seen...makes up for season five and not seeing her. And every second in the office...timothy nailed it as a new and proud papa yet still keep I g up the Raylan facade. This may be my all time favorite episode. And we all know anything Raylan gets me.

I found it disappointing. "There is no character, just words on a page."With the above quote, I thought Tim was saying that there is no formed character until the actor brings that character to life, using the words written in the script. I did not take it as a negative comment. But with Tim, one never knows. He can be sarcastic in interviews.
