I read a review from Chicago which slated the film but loved Tim's performance, it said it was the only performance in the film that had any originality in it. (I'll still see it when it comes out)!

There was a review in my morning paper by a person named Cary Darling of the Fort Worth Star- Telegram. Cary didn't care much for the movie, although he liked the cast. I'm not taking his word for anything since he described Timothy's character as Holly, Wendy's high-flying exec husband. Makes one wonder if this critic even paid any attention to the movie at all if he can't the get names and relationships right!
I went to the paper and left a comment as to the above. Shoot. How did this guy ever get a job?

I just came home from seeing the movie. I'm not going to say more than: I thoroughly enjoyed it. It moved along, pacing was good. I laughed, I cried. The performances of everyone were EXCELLENT. TO was in it more than I thought he would be. He's excellent in every scene he's in. The reviews were either too harsh or full of shit. Due to length of film, there were a lot of things in the book that did not make the film I'll definitely buy the DVD and hope there are some extras on it. I treated myself today by going to see this film a second time. I was a bit disappointed after the first viewing and I think that was primarily because the swimming pool scene with Wendy and Horry, from the novel, was not there and that colored my impressions. So, put that out of my head. Now after watching again I still think there was not enough TO, but I think he did a great job with the role. I loved the scenes, short as they were, between he and Wendy and I loved that he was often in the background of other action, still a presence. The last look at him as Wendy drove away, the waves and the look on her face...heartbreaking. I am looking forward to the DVD too, hoping for lots of extras. I'm wondering also about the negative reviews, especially comparing it to August Osage Iowa...ridiculous to compare the 2. I hope most folks will go without reading any reviews. With such a large cast of popular actors that the public generally likes, I would expect this movie to be very well-attended, and praised by word of mouth.

I really enjoyed the movie, maybe because I've never read the book. There was a nice mix of comedy and drama to make the movie very entertaining. The cast was exceptional, and Timothy did a great job with what he was given. I would have loved to see more of the Horry character, as he had a lot of history with Wendy. Loved Jason Bateman, and in my opinion, he carried the movie, even with a great ensemble cast backing him.

BOOK SPOILERS: Besides the missing swimming pool scene, there is another scene in the book where Jason Bateman's character finds a nude Horry (at Horry's house) having a seizure after having had sex. (Horry doesn't remember having the sex, either. Though Jason Bateman's character make a crack about scratches on Horry's ass, telling him it must have been good.) Those were the two big Horry scenes that were missing from the film. I think eluding to Horry and Wendy having had sex was good for the movie.

It was just eluded to in the book, too, in a conversation with Wendy and Judd. Judd says "You slept with Horry." She asks if Horry told him and Judd says that he saw her do the 'walk of shame' home from Horry's house. He says it's adultery and she tells him Horry is grandfathered in. I remember that line made me laugh. Too bad there was never really a scene between just Wendy and Horry, since the whole book is from Judd's perspective. When Judd finds Horry in the book, he's seen a girl Horry picked up at a bar they went to running away from the house, so he knows something's up. He makes the crack about the scratches and then Horry says "I can still smell her on me." Judd realizes he's not talking about the girl who just left, he's talking about Wendy. And yes, I just searched through my Kindle version for that scene, to see if I was remembering right. LOL. I cannot quote whole sections of the book verbatim.

I wish those two scenes were there too... It would have added more dimension to Horry's story, especially for those that didn't read the book...but I guess we'll just have to imagine seeing TO naked after sex... ...maybe they filmed something that we'll see in the extras, we can wish!

I wish those scenes were in there because I love me some nekked Olyphant, Ah ha ha ha ha, but the seizing might have not been so great.
The biggest thing left out of the book is why Judd and his older brother are at odds, and that is a big hole, I think.
Going to the interweb now to leave comments are Monday Did. Hint, Hint.
P.S. That whole "Grandfthered in" line is awesome! Misisng it was a mistake.

I just came back from the theater. It will never be a favorite of mine, but the cast was excellent. They left out what I remember as two very nice scenes with Horry, but what was there was nice and most of it in close up!! LOL Now we just have to have someone see it and say "Where has that man been? I want him in my new movie!"
I might buy the DVD just to go to the TO scenes.

The reviewers are full of shit.
Just got back from seeing the movie. LOVED it. Went with two other friends who also read the book and they also LOVED it. The casting was perfect and even though there wasn't enough of him, TO shone in that role and the relationship between he and Wendy was sweet and sad.
I thought it had just the right touch of drama and humor. I would've kept the bit with Judd and Paul, but I understand why they cut it. The novel had so much in it, it must've been difficult to decide what to keep/cut.

I saw it last weekend and I thought it was very good. I'm not sure how it would be for someone who hasn't read the book, because I was able to fill in the stuff I knew from the book about the characters. But they did manage to keep the general feel of the story, and it was funny. Of course we would have loved to see TO jump in the pool, (who wouldn't), but they did include most of the important Horry stuff. I will get the DVD when it comes out, for sure. I want to see it again.

Got notice from Amazon today that this is available for pre-order for $26.08. I'm guessing that the price will come down later. It came and went at my area theater before I got a chance to see it.
P.S. I am way behind in my Time magazine reading. Last week I finally opened the Sept.29 issue. Time actually liked the movie and praised Tina Fey for taking on what they called the movie's "most heartbreaking" story line " which finds Wendy reuniting with a brain-damaged ex-boyfriend (Justified's Timothy Olyphant) and wondering about the life that could have been.

Just had to add some of my latest photo editing Suprise face Tim.
Hi guys- Love Horry! I got my Blu-ray of TIWILY today, in the mail from Amazon.
I was so hoping for a deleted scene with TO and Tina in the pool, like in the book, but it was not there... There are a few snippets of Tim in the extras and the director and book author have lots of good things to say about Tim in the commentary, so that's nice. I liked the movie even more than when I saw it in the theatre.. I also hope that Tina Fey gets some award love, as her story with Horry gave her some wonderful dramatic moments. I didn't know she had it in her. I think award shows like to honor comediennes who do drama ... If only there had been a few more scenes with Tina and Tim to flesh out that story, it would have enhanced the entire film, IMO. I also thought Bateman was quite good and not the snarky, sarcastic persona that he so often plays in the movies. He seems like an actor that will appear in anything (Horrible Bosses , ugh)...but this really showcased his dramatic ability. Anyway, for what it's worth, the home version is out there now...

There are a number of actors and actresses who surprise me when they "stretch." Tina Fey has joined my list. Club me to death, but I despise Jim Carrey and Steve Carell in comedy roles. They make my skin crawl to the point where I want to claw it off. I avoid them like the plague. But they are really pretty of good as dramatic actors. I guess it depends on your sense of humor.

I saw a tweet recently that decribed This is where I leave you as having so many Stars that Timothy Olyphant only has 11 minutes of screen time. Thought that was a good description.
