This is actually good news. It means that the studio has some hopes for awards season. When movies are released in winter (Jan-Mar) or spring (April-May), they're usually long forgotten by the time the Globes, LA Times and Oscars are being considered. In a movie like this one, good performances in smaller roles are more likely to be noticed and appreciated.

And with any luck he will have time to do some promotion work for it

The IMDB page for this movie doesn't have much information. Who is playing Judd I assume it's Jason Bateman, although he is a little old to play Judd.
I can't wait to see TO in this movie. I love to see him doing different things, and this role is definitely different!

Just found this about release date for TIWILY...
"Warner Bros. will drop Leave You into theaters on Sept. 12, 2014. The movie will be adapted from Jonathan Tropper’s 2009 book, with the author handling screenwriting duties."
I went to the film's web site. This release is sooner than I thought...yay! I have high hopes for this one. I hope he will have more opportunities for films I want to see...not necessarily zombie man-eaters and more of the same Western characters. He was so good in "Catch and Release"...I want to see more romantic/drama type stories...Or I'd be happy to watch "Raylan Givens" in a movie.

Something to help us get through till next season of Justified. But we need more! More movies, Tim. I've been watching Banshee, a show that Johnathan Tropper helps write. It's crazy and a little over the top. But I've been enjoying it.

LOL My husband loves Banshee so I get to "hear" it if I stay on the couch and read while he's watching. Just a little too nasty for me. A little bit like "Justified" with absolutely NO humor. Hubby likes it, however. I was stunned, a few months ago, to find it is written by Tropper. Nothing like any of his books I've read.

Yay! So glad to see that this is being promoted. I'm going to read the book again before it comes out. There is an article along with the photo:
Tropper says his own vision of the characters began to shift while adapting the book as Levy cast the film. “With actors like this, who have very strong voices, you definitely find yourself in the last few drafts of the screenplay channeling them,” he says. When it opens Sept. 12, This Is Where I Leave You could become known as the movie where Tina Fey made people cry. “And not just with my on-set anger,” she adds. From Left to Right, here’s a rundown of who’s who in the family photo: • Charles “Boner” Grodner (Ben Schwartz) The family’s too-cool-for-schul rabbi with the inappropriate childhood nickname. • Tracy (Connie Britton) Therapist turned girlfriend of Phillip, a smart woman who has foolishly convinced herself he’s just as serious about her. • Penny (Rose Byrne) Long-ago, hometown crush for Judd, who still harbors high-school level adoration from him. • Linda (Debra Monk) The Altman’s neighbor, mother of Horry, and Hillary’s best friend and confidant. Maybe more. • Phillip (Adam Driver) The out-of-control youngest child, spoiled but charismatic. He’d like a cut of the family sporting goods business, despite no experience. • Horry (Timothy Olyphant) Neighbor and teenage boyfriend of Wendy, who suffered a brain injury when they were dating and now lives at home with mom Linda. • Alice (Kathryn Hahn) She briefly dated Judd when they were young, but later met and married his big brother Paul. She desperately wants a baby. • Paul (Corey Stoll) The steady, surly oldest son, and the only Altman who stayed behind to help his father run the family sporting goods business. • Wendy (Tina Fey) A married mother of two, still heartbroken over Horry, the damaged boy she left behind. Her life is lush, but loveless. • Hilary (Jane Fonda) A psychologist who wrote a bestselling parenting book about her troubled brood, her overt sexuality is a constant embarrassment. • Barry (Aaron Lazar) Wendy’s aloof but wealthy husband, who spends the funeral on his phone closing a deal with work. • Judd (Jason Bateman) The middle son, already a disappointment, whose life is spiraling after his wife left him for his boss, then announced she was pregnant. • Shawn Levy The director of the movie, best known for Real Steel, and the Night at the Museum films. With the father of the Altman clan deceased, he’s filling in as the Pater Familias.

Thanks for posting this, greygirl!! I just found it on The Wrap and was checking to see if anyone had posted it. A big article in EW MIGHT mean it actually will come to one of my local theaters! I hope so, although this is one I'd drive miles to see!

I hope so, although this is one I'd drive miles to see! Yeah, this does make it look good for a wide release. I really hope it shows in my little town. If not, I may drive to a bigger city. I've done it before for other movies. The picture is great! Thanks for posting it! And thanks, Mare, for the article. It's been a while since I read it, and I was looking at the picture and thinking 'who is that supposed to be?'. It took me a while to find Tim! Really, really looking forward to this movie.

Just changed my avatar to a photo of TO from filming of TIWILY...Love the long hair look for this role. I could picture him as I read the novel. Looking forward to the scenes with Tina Fey...I think there is one in a swimming pool, if I remember the story. Also, this photo made me think of "Damages" when TO and Rose Byrne worked together. I don't think their characters encounter each other in this film, but I liked the two of them in "Damages".

The movie looks great! I watched the trailer twice. Tim looks dreamy in the scene with Tina Fey. I hope he's going to be in the movie for more than a few scenes.

In the book, Horry is not a main character, but he IS an important character. I think the scenes he is in will be pivotal ones, especially for Tina Fey's character, Wendy.
I would rather see TO take a small role in what looks to be a good movie like this one, than a larger role in something less intelligent ( i.e Hitman and that ilk.)

It would be nice if we could have every scene that Horry is in from the book. I doubt we'll get that, but the scene from the trailer with Tina Fey is promising.
Wkw- I do like the idea of Tim in a smaller role in a really good movie. Especially if he can play an offbeat, interesting character.

Ha! I binge watched Orange is the New Black (for the first time) before the Season Two premiere. The inmates read different books. They show the title. One of them was reading 'This is Where I Leave You.'

I'm not the only one that ranks Hitman as my least favorite TO film? Yay! I mean, he looks great, but the script is horrible. Not my genre either. What is ilk?
