I was given HBO for free last year and got hooked on "The Newsroom"...as much for the Aaron Sorkin writing as anything. Loved West Wing til he and Rob Lowe left. So I tuned into Newsroom and loved it...not that "can't live without it love like for Justified" but it made me watch and laugh and season 2 just ended and I really enjoyed it...got off to a rocky start but ended on a super high.....I have been a TV addict since childhood...my taste has improved to quality when before it was pure trash...what can I say...TV grew up and so did I.

Who else is watching the final episodes of Breaking Bad? I just watched the penultimate episode of the series. And all I have to say is: Landry, Lance, Todd ... ewwwwwwww! I agree...could there be a creepier, more evil character than "TODD" ...in a series full of that type! That was quite an episode, but his cruelty and sadism was hard to believe...Threatening Skylar/Holly, poor Andrea...and Brock, left alone and Oh my god Jesse had to witness...He's been a prisoner for weeks or months...I don't think Jesse deserves all this pain. And Flynn, what a heart wrenching phone call - I'm glad he told off his dad, about time. Now I think we see that Walt(Heisenberg) is returning because of Elliot and Gretchen, oh next week is going to be painful...!

Yeah, after the family door was closed on Walt by his BRILLIANT son, he gives up and is ready to turn himself in until he sees his old partners dissing him on national TV. LOL The ego wins! Jesse is the remaining heart of the show. I really want him to make it, but why? Does he have much to live for? It will be determined to be his fault (by association) that Brock no longer has a mother. Unless he can take care of him financially. How would you like to see it end?

How would you like to see it end? [/quote] I want to see Jesse make it to, but I don't know how that can happen...I really thought he was going to get away last night and I actually forgot about Andrea and Brock.
How would I like it to end? I was thinking about this late last night, hard to sleep after watching that episode. I thought Jesse may somehow take his own life or maybe somehow take Todd out and die as well. I don't think Jesse has much will left...and I don't think Walt will try to find him and save him, Walt is too self centered and driven now by anger with Eliott and Gretchen. I think Walt cut all ties with Jesse when he told him about Jane. I think Walt has to die, how could he be the one who lives? His cancer could get him, Skylar or Flynn could actually be the one who kills him if he tries to come back into their lives. He has to answer for Hank, for all the prisoners he has killed, for Gus, for so many who have died because of him.
Somehow, I'd like to see Jesse rescued, Walt punished, Marie- what could help her? Skylar, should she be punished for going along with Walt, so far, or does her trying to protect her children give her an excuse? I hope the kids are alright and how could they be, without their mom? Unless Marie ends up with the kids, giving her a purpose after Skylar is gone? Saul, kind of a dirtbag, maybe he should just stay in hiding, never to practice "law" again. I don't know...what do you think should happen?

Re: BrBa
I can't imaging what they have in store for the finale. Gilligan said "woodwork"?
Is the ricin for Todd? I noticed him smoking above Jesse in that cage scene. Is it for Lydia's tea? Or is the ricin for Walt?
Todd is so creepy because he looks like a choir boy.
Re: Dexter.
A Wholly unsatisfying ending if you ask me. Stroke out Deb? Why? So the PI couldn't hound her? Dexter send his beloved son off with a woman wanted by the US Marshals?
The "new writers" for the Travis Marshall season just fuck that show so bad it was unrecognizable; and then couldn't get back on track.
Re:
The Newsroom.
I like it to, Ripetebook. I started watching on the advice of Wkw. HBO ran all of season 1 back to back one weekend and I got caught up and watched season 2 in real time. Jeff Daniels is from Chelsea, Michigan; home of the Jiffy muffing mix company.

Seems like Walt's dander is up due to Elliot and Gretchen, could he possibly poison them? and Todd is the creepiest, so unlike Landry.

Gilligan teased "woodword" in Talking Bad at 11:30. Your guess is as good as mine.

She may be trying to protect her kids, but she's not a good person. Marie? I'd love to see her get the kids, especially Holly. That scenario, right there, might save Marie. Flynn will be okay. He, the handicapped kid, is the only one who is normal. He would protect Holly and idolize Uncle Hank's legacy. Saul is getting a new series. A prequel I think. But after this series, dirtbags like Saul always survive.

The 'woodwork' clue: I read somewhere in my travels that the clue is referring back to the episode, "Kafkaesque." In a later scene, the 12-step group leader asks Jesse to talk about what he might want to do with his life if money weren't an issue, and Jesse tells the story of a box he made in high school wood shop class (in yet another spellbinding moment from Aaron Paul). He found enough sense of self-worth to keep messing with that box until it was perfect... and then he traded it for some weed.Is he going to build the perfect meth? Even better than Walt's? And will he blow up his perfect box? I have no idea. www.hitfix.com/blogs/whats-alan-watching/posts/breaking-bad-kafkaesque-just-a-little-off-the-top

Who's watching BrBa the marathon? I just started tonight at 8:00 pm EDT. They have to beep all the swear words because it's not after 10pm. It will run until 6:00 am and then start at 9:00 am round the clock until Sunday night. Why doesn't Fx do this? Errrrr.... I forgot how good it all started...

I'd forgotten about that scene that brings so much heart to Jesse, and makes him seem like a lost little boy. I do want him to make it, but how will he live with everything that's happened? My husband thinks it would be great if Marie kills Walt. She's got that slightly crazy side to her, I could almost see her doing it. He shouldn't just die slowly from his cancer. That doesn't pay him back for all the hurt he's caused. I can't wait to see the last episode Sunday night! My son's been watching some of the marathon. I've watched a bit of it. It really is a very well written show. Even though I've seen all of the episodes, I'm still drawn into it again.

But I wasn't expecting much after this last season. It pretty much sucked. The only part I liked about the finale was the very ending. To me, Dex can't die. When I thought they were killing him off, I was pissed. What they did to Deb was unnecessary and seemed silly. You're right MCM, it went downhill after the Travis Marshall season.

I'm having a major "catch-up. My husband and me and a couple of our friends went to Carcassonne in France for my BIG birthday and just came back last night so I have loads of programmes recorded that I NEED to watch, one of them being the finale of Dexter. While we were there we watched a the first few episodes of Breaking Bad on DVD and none of us were impressed at all, the only thing I would like to know is how they got rid of all the "gloop" from the dissolving body and bathtub. I think the problem for us was that there was no humour in it.

I think the problem for us was that there was no humour in it. I had the same experience when I first watched BB, Weegie. I had a dear friend push me to try and watch it 3 times. (I had a hard time getting through most of Season 1. And in the end, I'm glad I did. Would you believe I'm having a similar problem with a friend about the first season of Justified? But I am.) It sometimes takes a series some time to find its stride, and I think it was clearly the case in both BB and Justified. As with Justified, the characters grow, develop, evolve in BB. There is not much humor on BB except maybe some of Jesse's sidekicks ... they can be pretty funny. And attorney Saul could be funny. But the show is extremely quirky. (Klepto, purple lady Marie for one.) Full of patterns, clues, references and homages to thinks in popular culture. But I know what you mean. I wouldn't be able to take the blood and violence in Justified ... if it weren't for the strategic placement of humour. I am happy BB is over, especially after this season. It's been a TOO intense ride.

SPOILERS! don't read if you haven't watched the last BB and still intend to do so.****************************************
I watched the finale! I thought it was excellent...it tied up all the loose ends that I was wondering about, it was satisfying in the way that Walt got what was coming to him...he "saved" Jesse, even though that was not his original intent, the Aryans (Nazis) were ended, Lydia was punished for her evil ways, Walt got to have a face to face with Skylar and Holly...one thing that was sad, he wasn't able to face his son, his son probably would not have allowed it anyway. The manner is which he left the money with Gretchen and Elliot really threw me, but it was a great solution and he didn't go after them, like I thought he would...the brief appearances of Skinny Pete and Badger were inspired! great dialog with them. I was glad Jesse was free, I felt he was punished enough...I was glad Walt died, as what else could happen to him after all the damage and evil he did, he had to die. I feel sorry for Skylar, and for Marie, their lives are irreversibly damaged and nothing can make that better. same for Flynn. He may get the millions, but that won't heal him. Emotional problems for all of them, the rest of their lives. It was better than I expected it to be and I didn't guess right on any possible scenarios, with the exception of knowing Walt must die. A lot of wonderful performances.

SPOILERS*
I thought the finale of BB was very well done. It tied up so many loose ends. Like Mare27 I didn't guess right on most of the scenarios. I figured Walt would get the Aryans one way or the other though. The way Jesse took care of Todd was rather fitting (and violent!). I hope Jesse gets a chance to see Brock. I do wonder what the police have on Jesse. Will he have to disappear? Surely he'll leave New Mexico. Lots to think about last night after the show. It was a big family event for us. My oldest son didn't watch it though. He rarely watches the same things my husband and younger son watch.

dID YOU ALL WATCH "tALKING bAD" Oops. Caps. After the broadcast? Gilligan noted that Walt in the meth lab immediately preceding his death was like Gollum with "the precious" ala LoTR. I though that was a great analogy.
I liked the finale; a lot. but as to what Weegie said, there is verrry little humor in the BrBa drama. Only Hank and Saul were a bit of comic relief early on. I think that is why I much per fer Six Feet Under and Justified as my all time favorite dramas. Both have a vein of humor running through them like a vein of opal through granite. You never know how the humor will be colored, but you know it will momentarily flash before you and add liveliness to the story.
P.S. Weegie, did we miss your birthday?

I saw Vince Gilligan on Talking Bad and loved his reference to Lord of the Rings. Yes, the lab was Walt's "precious". There isn't much humor in BB, but I really liked the way Walt (and sometimes Jesse) always found creative ways to solve their problems. Walt was such a smart man when it came to science, but stupid about everything else in his life. The scene where they erased the memory on the computers in the evidence room was so great. "Magnets, bitches". MCM- I think we watch a lot of the same shows. I recently finished watching all of Six Feet Under. I didn't watch it when it was on originally. I absolutely loved it and didn't want it to end. There was a lot of offbeat comedy in it, and I love that.

I just happened to watch a rerun of Law and Order CI, tonight...and listed as one of the cast was Linda Gehringer, our lovely Aunt Helen Givens. This show must have been 10 years old, maybe. Linda was blond and lovely. It was fun to recognize her. When I saw this actress on Justified, I assumed she was someone I had never seen before.

Boy, when Saul was introduced, that sure lightened things up a bit, didn't it. The story really needed that. He was so refreshing as a break from the madness of Jesse and Walt's bungling enterprise. I take it that you two -MCM and kmmo- would recommend Six Feet Under? I was thinking of getting it from the library. Good idea? I never saw the Sopranos, any opinions about that series? Geez, there is a lot of time to kill before Season 5.

A truly great show that never fell apart the way Alan Ball's next show, True Blood, has.
