this will really show my age, but I remember when Robert Duvall should have won an EMMY FOR "Gus" the US Marshall in Lonesome Dove and he was passed up so they could give it to James Wood in the tv movie about Bill W, who created AA. It was just so wrong! Fell in love with Duvall as Gus...thought he never had a better role than that one. I gave up on the emmys for years after that....BUT, I kind of feel the same way about TO and Raylan, so deserving of recognition for his fine work. I'll be watching for sure. And I think we've had enough about Bryan Cranston, good as he is as Walter White, he's had his moment or two or three. A thank you speech by TO is sure to be fun to watch. Time for some yard work...will check in again later. Love to see what you are all thinking about.... I never saw Lonesome Dove but bet I would have liked it. My favorite Robert Duvall role was in 'The Great Santini.' And 'Go Boo'!!

And he's still not in the show enough. I'm mighty pissed off about the one I just watched. Give us RAYLAN, not more frigging Boyd. I don't watch Justified for Boyd!

Honestly, I can't imaging Justified being the hit that it is without Boyd. Raylan's the main character, but a show can't survive with just a strong lead character. You have to have strong supporting characters as well.

Yes but not to a point where he's getting more screen time.

Which episode did you just finish watching? Some of the episodes are Raylan-lite. And we do love us all the Raylan we can get. I do like Boyd, though. I am soooo happy they did not kill him off in the pilot. He deserves an Emmy, too!! He does a great job with this role. I'm also a huge fan of Wynn Duffy. These two give Raylan the best dialog.

It was 'get Drew'. As the season reaches it's climax I would expect to see more of Raylan not less. This was just frustrating on that front. He was hardly in it.

The next episode should make you happier. Many critics, and many of us, too, think "Decoy" is one of the best episodes of the series, ever.

Yes but not to a point where he's getting more screen time. While he has a interesting story arch, I don't think Boyd is getting more screen time than the main character. I think the writers are trying to give the supporting cast more screen time as a whole, but Boyd is definitely a major supporting character.

Well I'm afraid that strategy is slowly losing me as regards this season. I just don't care enough about any of them. It was Raylan's style and charisma which hooked me from the very first episode and when I don't see enough of that the show gets dull quite fast. Justified is Raylan's ship and the writers need to let him sail it.

I actually thought there was more Raylan this season than in S3. I've enjoyed getting to know some things about the other characters. Especially the glimpse at Tim's military past and the little bit we got to know about Rachel. When we know the villains a bit as well, it keeps them from being one-dimensional. I'm not interested in seeing only Raylan's perspective. I like knowing what's going on with Boyd and Duffy and all of the other characters. I think the writing for them is fantastic, and I love how TO gives Raylan's lines away half the time (Art's speech about how cool Drew Thompson is was supposed to be his). The story wouldn't have been half as interesting without Shelby's sweet relationship with Ellen Mae or Colton and Johnny's deception...but that's all just my opinion.

Justified is Raylan's ship and the writers need to let him sail it. I don't know where you are in S4 and don't want to spoil anything for you. I know we were trying to pick an Emmy submission episode for TO for S4 and there are several. We, the fans, always ask for more Tim and Rachel (Art seems to get a good amount of scenes each season ... which is great). Besides Boyd and Ava (and Johnny), there are a lot of guest stars in S4. And Producer TO is very generous with cast and crew. Most ensemble cast shows are going this way. We can expect maybe 4 or 5 good Raylan story episodes each season ... which always includes a strong season opener and the season ender, usually a really good penultimate ep ... and then, other episodes that move the stories along. In a short, 13 episode season, that's not much for the writers to work with. But you have a valid point. Raylan is the lead character. We can never get too much of him. I'm really curious to see what they are going to with Season 5.

I don't think Tim could work any harder than he already does, with 12 to 14 hour days during the shooting season. He'd be working 17-20 hours a day if he was the only one "sailing that ship" most of the time.

I have to agree with wkw. Season 2 is tied with season 4 as my favorite. I thought we got to see lots of Raylan in season 4, and I was a happy camper. The other characters impact on his storyline, so we have to see that. Perhaps the problem is that the writers have given us such a rich array of characters. What would the show be without Boyd, Ava,Art, Tim, Rachel, Arlo, Helen, Mags? Then there are the guests stars who really make the series POP: Duffy, Johnny, Constable Bob, Ella May? There should be a few more episodes per season to fit it all in, but this is the format of cable,so we have to deal.

well the 2013 Emmys are over...the only bright side for me was if TO can't even get a nom...then I am glad that Jeff Daniels beat that AMC crap...sorry but I am tired of the Mad Men and Breaking Bad BS and since we seem to be passed over at FX and Justified is by far so much better than the AMC crowd...I am glad we (Jeff did a good job)took Bryan's 4th Emmy away...I mean really 3 wins is enough...can we share the wealth... same with Modern Family...enough is enough...does anyone smell the political machine at work....
Thought Neil Patrick was great and that in general the dresses were so-so...nothing great........loved Margo's presenting...but she is a better actress...oh how we miss ya Mags.
Anyone else have opinions?

Thought Neil Patrick was great and that in general the dresses were so-so...nothing great........loved Margo's presenting...but she is a better actress...oh how we miss ya Mags. Anyone else have opinions? On the Emmys? Like you all, I am so bummed that Justified wasn't in the mix. They should have been! They seemed to spread the statues around this year. So, I guess that's good. The show was loooong. The special memorials were ... a bit much for me. The highlight was seeing Anna Gunn finally get hers. Her submission episode (for last season, not the finale season ... she may win again next year!) was just stellar incredible. I knew when I watched her in that episode that this was her real chance for an Emmy. Her performance was incredible. I haven't seen Jeff Daniel's performance and can't comment. I've heard he won on the pilot as his submission and that it contained a long monolog. I do take issue with Bryan Cranston not being deserving of another win for last season, and even more so for next year's Emmy (for the current final season). The show has only been on for 5 seasons. Like TO, I don't think Bryan Cranston acts for the awards. His character has transformed (sometimes back and forth within the same episode) from mild mannered Walter White to crazy Mo-Fo Heisenberg. And now, it's a matter of how low his character can go. (He's hit rock bottom, and I think he's going lower.) I didn't want to get hooked on Breaking Bad. I fought it. But after three times trying to watch on recommendations of people I respect, I did. And these last episodes are some of the most intense I've ever seen on television. That being said, I'm over Mad Men. And I look forward to life after Breaking Bad. Damn you, Vince Gilligan!! (One of my favorite X Files writers.) I do agree that we've had a loonnnng run of anti-heroes, and I'm not watching any new shows that are using this format. It's lazy. I'm so glad the Emmys love Margo Martindale. Speaking of endings, I didn't see Dexter (I'm not a regular fan.) I heard a mix of reactions. From Dexter fans, was it a good ending or was it disappointing? You can ask me the same, next week, about Breaking Bad. I also thought Kevin Spacey was superb in House of Cards. As a fan of Downton Abbey, I did not think Hugh Bonneville's performance was good enough to edge out TO. Not even close. The Emmy dresses? My favorites were Anna Gunn (best I've ever seen her look on the Red Carpet) and Rose Byrne. Both their hair and makeup were simple, understated. Beautiful.

Anyone else have opinions? I was trying to watch BB last night (amazing!) and tuned in to the Emmys during commercials and after BB, so I missed quite a bit... I wish I had seen Anna Gunn win, but I saw her photo and thought she looked so elegant in that black and white strapless gown...she has the TO connection thru Deadwood, I've always thought she was very good. I am still mad that Justified was overlooked and I think it's all just a big money/political scam. FX is smaller with less budget and is left out. HBO/SHOWTIME/ABC have all the money and get most of the attention. And after a show wins twice, let's call that enough and spread it around... I would have loved to see TO as a presenter, he is a former nominee, after all, and he could charm everyone, in that role. remember how fabulous he looked in that tux a couple of years ago? I thought the big production numbers I saw, the choreographers, the JFK/Beatles thing with Carrie Underwood, made no sense in this presentation, just a mess. And the tributes to those who passed , though touching, kind of ground the show to a halt repeatedly. I get kind of sick of watching the award shows after awhile, especially when what I watch is not recognized. maybe next year?

I thought the show dragged. I've been watching the last few episodes of BB, and Cranston is fantastic in it. There's so much going on with that character all the time. I don't see anyone taking it away from him next year. I did wonder if Kevin Spacey might get it last night and I was shocked, although not displeased, by Jeff Daniels' win.. Newsroom is Sorkin preachy, but he does a great job with the role. Happy to see Anna Gunn recognized, especially since she's put up with the haters for so long. I loved her dress, and Connie Britton's as well. On a different note, according to OLV (On-location-vacation) The Following is filming in NYC right now. And there are photos of NZ at the before AND after Emmy parties in L.A. Hopefully they're negotiating with her for more time on Justified.

About a fourth of the show were "In Memoriams" and no mention of Elmore Leonard at all. You think it was because he was known more for his movie adaptations, than television?
Loved Merritt Weaver's speech. Anna Gunn's win and dress. And Natalie Zea looked great at the HBO after party too.

2 pretty ladies that have both been kissed by our Tim. *Sigh* Tim is always paired with some real knockouts cause he's so pretty.
The vid of Michigan's own Jeff Daniels was hysterical. Good for Jeff. He's an Oscar winner too, is he not?
I still think Spacey's Emmy nod should have went to the talented and beautiful Timothy Olyphant!

Ha, I just saw this thread, I was away when the Emmy's were on TV (we only get the "highlights" in UK) so I missed it altogether and I wouldn't have watched anyway since no-one I care about was nominated!!! But I have only just found out from here who won some of the awards...I'm glad for Anna Gunn, thought she was very good in Deadwood and am delighted that Brian Cranston didn't win AGAIN.
