Fuck the experts. There's always a dark-horse or two who manage to make it in. Our show is critically acclaimed. These critics DO have influence, and so do the fans. Talk up Justified, Walton, TO, and Joelle anywhere you can. Make people stand up and notice.
BTW...the most popular shows on television ratings-wise (NCIS and The Walking Dead) are not likely to get any nominations either.

Here's a way to get our 2 cents worth to the critics. (I'm popping back in the middle of this strand, so if it's already been mentioned, please excuse.): www.goldderby.com/Their annual, live Emmy chat will be on tomorrow night, Wednesday, April 24th, 6-7 p.m. PT/ 9-10 p.m. ET. And you can vote too. Doesn't hurt the cause. BTW, I recently saw what appears to be the series finale of Southland. Whoa. Michale Cudlitz turned in a jaw dropping performance. He probably won't be in contention, but he should be. And TO should be as well. Mad Men has been a snooze. Hugh Bonneville, a decent actor, doesn't deserve a 2013 nomination.

Here's the gist of the Gold Derby Emmy Podcast tonite. I'm only going through the Drama Series. The only items of interest in comedy were 1) Arrested Development, and 2) Jon Cryer will not repeat a win as Best Actor Comedy.
Emmy submissions are not final until May 3rd, so even these critics didn't know what actor or writer or director submitted what ep. They even said to take their comments with a grain of salt.
Drama Series (New shows with a chance to get in): House of Cards (On Netflix. Guess I need to check it out.) The Newsroom (Aaron Sorkin's show.) The Americans (I've tried to watch it ... maybe I need to see it again as Margot Martindale and Noah Emmerick are mentioned again and again.) Bates Motel Nashville (which was barely renewed)
Drama Actor (Agreed to be THE hardest category) (On a New series with a chance to break through): Jeff Daniels (His 5 minute opening, self righteous liberal monologue in the Pilot evidently was incredible. He's rumored to have done it in one take. Sorkin wants his script word for word.) Kevin Spacey (Has been predicted to win, if Netflix factor doesn't work against the show.)
Nominated last year, but rumored to fall out of the category? In order:
1. Jon Hamm (based on first several episodes of this season) 2. Hugh Bonneville 3. Steve Buscemi (although most think he'll stay in) 4. Michael C. Hall
Timothy Olyphant was definitely mentioned as having more than a chance of getting back in (if the show can overcome the Hollywood snob 'Hillbilly factor' for the major awards, along with Nashville and Sons of Anarchy.)
Michael Cudlitz of Southland in what is probably the series finale.
Brian Cranston and Damien Lewis will stay in. Cranston could win again.
Drama Actress (On a New series who could break into the category): Keri Russell (The Americans. They say she could beat Claire Danes, but I personally don't see her winning this category.) Robin Wright (House of Cards) Connie Britton (Although she will be the only one from Nashville who will be nominated but will not win. It has the hillbilly factor and the soap factor going against it.) Kerry Washington (Scandal. I don't see it.) Vera Farmiga (Bates Motel)
Only Julianne Marguilles and Claire Danes are the only clear locks from last year.
Who could fall out from last year?
1. Michelle Dockery 2. Elizabeth Moss 3. Kathy Bates is gone from this category.
Elizabeth McGovern could come in for Downton Abbey instead of Michelle Dockery.
They're saying Robin Wright could win. Claire Danes' character is a one trick pony.
Monica Potter for Parenthood (cancer story) could be nominated.
I just want to throw it out there that Regina King of Southland was outstanding this season. She's been nominated before.
Supporting Actor Drama (Actors that could sneak in): Sam Waterston Mandy Patikin (and is rumored to win for Homeland) Jonathan Banks John Slattery Laurence Fishburne Noah Emmerick (The Americans) Larry Hagman (ugh ... the sympathy vote) Walton Goggins was mentioned big time as deserving to finally get in.
There's some shuffling going on for this category in nominations:
Rob James Collier (Downtown Abbey)
Aaron Paul will stay in, but will not win again. Peter Dinklage will be out.
Supporting Actress Drama (New Shows): Kate Mara Emily Mortimore Olivia Munn Hayden Panetierre
I personally think (and hope) this is Anna Gunn's year.
She'll have to beat Maggie Smith.
Guest Actor Drama Michael J. Fox or Nathan Lane (The Good Wife) Jimmy Smitts (Sons of Anarchy) James Cromwell (Boardwalk Empire) So many from Justified to mention. (Some could cancel others out): Mike O'Malley Jim Beaver Gerald McRainey (He could also get it for Southland) Patton Oswalt
Walton Goggins was mentioned several time for Sons of Anarchy.
Jesse Plemmons was mentioned for Breaking Bad.
Guest Actress Drama Shirley McLain is rumored to get in and to win for Downton Abbey Jane Fonda Martha Plimpton (The Good Wife) Joan Cusak (Shameless) Stockard Channing (The Good Wife) Diana Rigg (Game of Thrones) Margo Martindale (The Americans ... although not as showy a role as Justified) Jennnifer Hudson (Smash)

I am always surprised that Michelle Dockerty is nominated....she is sooooo wooden, it must be the character she plays because I watched her in something else recently and she was much better. I am so glad that Tim, Walton and so many of the others are getting a mention, they truely deserve to be nominated. Thanks for the rundown Dolphin.

So Sorkin likes his scripts read word for word? Guess TO won't be doing anything with Sorkin anytime soon. LOL. Hey, I loved, loved, loved West Wing, AND I'm a Democrat, AND Jeff Daniels is a great actor...but I don't think Newsroom is in any way Emmy worthy. I'm not looking for a win...but I would love to see TO back in the category. He deserves it. Ditto Walton and any number of the guest actors. Personally, despite my undying affection for Jim Beaver, I think Mike O'Malley is more deserving. Talk about playing against type!. Although, Patton Oswalt is on a roll. I could see him being nominated. I can't believe Joelle and the gal who plays Ellen May weren't even mentioned. I thought both their performances this season were primo. I would love to see the writers get some recognition, too. Maybe for 'Decoy'? We have Netflix. I need to check out House of Cards. Speaking of Patton Oswalt...did everyone see this? www.huffingtonpost.com/patton-oswalt/patton-oswalt_b_3088337.html

Well said Patton Oswalt.
House of Cards is based on an excellent TV programme from here which aired in 1990 about an unscrupulous, manipulative Conservative politician who managed to become Prime Minister. I would be interested to see how Kevin Spacey's version matches up. It should be very good.

You all are very welcome. I agree. I don't think TO would win, but he deserves to be one of the six nominees. So does Walt in his category. It was pointed out that TO and WG are almost like co-leads. (This is from a critic who obviously doesn't follow the stories for more than a looksie.) What is interesting is that FX (among other networks) has not presented their Emmy reels to the press. We have no idea yet who submitted for what episode. I think Patton Oswalt should be nominated for 'Decoy.' He could win it. He's gotten good publicity with his now famous Boston tweet. Can you believe Jere Burns didn't have an Emmy worthy ep this season? I hear you all on Downton Abbey, but they are well represented in the Emmy publicity machine, so they're not likely to go anywhere. There is word that Elizabeth McGovern had the better submission episode this season and could take Dockery's place. Excuse me, but milk toast Hugh Bonneville does not deserve to be a nominee for his performance this year (or last, imo). Keep your eyes and ears open next week for more info on the FX Emmy submission packets.

I get the Emmy magazine and usually they have one huge issue "for your consideration" full of DVd and other goodies. Well Showtime jumped ahead by one issue and I have Shameless and House of Cards...plus the team that does Justified also does CBS's Elementary and I got a three episode DVD of Elementary ( I like that show very much and usually catch it "on demand". Nothing was included from FX yet and the bib issue comes out in June...worth the subscription.

You and I are the only ones who have voted for TO, I think. This site does create some buzz. Celebs of news shows are aware of it and do interviews. Margo Martindale, for instance, is a friend of Gold Derby. Natalie Zea just did an interview (video is still up). Go and sign up on the site and vote your Emmy choices for Justified if you like. I scored a lot of points and actually won the Derby the year Kyle Chandler (dark horse) won. The odds on him winning were like 200/1 or something like that.

I registered last week and voted. But I am not sure if my votes were counted. Besides TO and Walton Goggins, I also cast votes for Abby Miller and Mike O'Malley (with Patton Oswalt and Ron Eldard included as nominees.) The potential Dramatic Guest Actor field is jam packed with Justified alumni.

Here's a long Gold Derby interview with Mike O'Malley. The first half is about Justified and the second is about Glee.

The LA Daily News has glowing remarks regarding the upcoming Emmy noms:
Drama Series: Justified has its share of champions. It looks on the surface to be a crime procedural set in Kentucky with its hero Marshal Raylan Givensquick on the draw where everyone has a gun. Justified is far cleverer than that and this season found Raylan contemplating his place in this nasty little world of drug dealers and family feuds while the storytelling was filled with nifty little twists and turns.
Drama Actor: I would also like to see Timothy Olyphant of Justified on the list. Sometimes his role of Raylan is just too cool and understated it may seem like he isn't doing much, but Olyphant always reminds us how human he is.
Two quotes...cross your fingers someone is reading from the Emmy panel.

So did I. Everyone ... pile on to comments for TO!! We did this for FNLs. Posted on every Comments section of every online Emmy article we could find. Eventually ... the new viewers, the comments, the word of mouth reaches 'critical mass.'
