I'm so bummed! I posted this on the FX board, too. My rant ... I am a fan of Downton Abbey. But there is NO WAY Hugh Bonneville or Michael C. Hall deserved to bump or trump Tim (or Hugh Laurie for that matter). No stinking way. How does Downton Abbey get to run as a series this year (when it ran as a Mini Series last year) ... and American Horror Story get to run as a Mini Series (when it ran as a series last year? )? The results this year are big cable studios running amok. AND Downton Abbey, I predict, will win everyting (except for Best Actor Drama ... which will go to Bryan Cranston. Not to Hugh Bonneville because he doesn't deserve to be in the category!)! This day it sucks.

Well, at least Jeremy Davies got a nomination as Guest Actor.
But Downton Abbey's 2nd season....... Uh, no. The first season was good; the second was absurd. Too many convenient and predictable plot developments. I had a tough time watching it.

I see an Outstanding Art Direction nomination on the list.
No, I am not happy. Not happy at all. Hugh Bonneville over TO or Hugh Laurie---- that is just ridiculous. I love Michael C. Hall, but this season was not worthy of that nomination.
And my beloved underdog Community was shut out completely. Completely! Yet again. But Two and a Half Men gets some Emmy love (for Jon Cryer). That crass, tasteless show......
No, not a happy camper.

Did he? I didn't see the category. I checked the press release. He is nominated for Justified and he f-cking deserves it. Yay! I'm happy for him. I also see that Mad Men is nominated for 3 of 5 best writing drama noms? I saw Mad Men. It deserved 2 of those, but no way 3. What a bunch of crazy, whacko noms this year! I'll be rooting for Breaking Bad.

To tell you the truth, I was surprised that TO got nominated in 2011. NOT because TO is not within the league of A-list TV actors, but just because the way these Emmy guys seem to tick.

We felt the same way with Friday Night Lights finally getting some nods and Kyle's win last year. Flukes! I worry if this isn't a forboding of US elections to come. Big corporations have all the moolah ... and can pretty much buy anything they want. Case in point ... as happy as I am for Justified's ONLY nom in Jeremy Davies ... it's almost as if he's being nominated for LAST year. (Justified submitted first and last eps. Very little Dickie Bennett.) So ... do these voters even watch the submitted eps? I don't think they do.

Jeremy Davies was good in any number of episodes, but he was out of the picture by the last one. It reminds me of another awards show that shall remain nameless in which two people were nominated who had not been on their respective show in two years! (It's a silly awards show. Not one I watch. But when I saw those nominatiions I knew it was a corporate award and not really a gift from the fans.)

Downton Abbey received a landslide of noms last season in the 'Mini Series' category. All they did was shift their huge influence into the Drama Series category. I don't know what it is about Emmys love of Downton Abbey and Mad Men. Good shows, both ... but they are not monopolies!!! And as so rightly mentioned, both shows did not have their best seasons this year. Mad Men had 2 outstanding episodes ... that deserve to be recognized. (And Best Actor was honestly not one of them! There was no 'Suitcase' episode for Don Draper this year.) And they score 3 out of 5 Best Writing nods? No, there is something inherently unfair about this. I'm almost done ranting.

I believe Downton Abbey shifted into the drama series category because they continued their storyline into the second season, whereas American Horror Story will get a virtual reboot. (New house, new family.)

I believe Downton Abbey shifted into the drama series category because they continued their storyline into the second season, whereas American Horror Story will get a virtual reboot. (New house, new family.) That makes sense, but I know on FNLs (and King of Thrones) they had a choice of going lead, co-star ... series, min-series. It makes it more like a chess game than a vote. I think there should be rules for these studios to be held to. This is not the US Congress! As an aside, Yay! to Connie Britton for her nomination. Looks like Coach (presenter) and Mrs. Coach (nominee) will be reunited at the Emmys. And Kyle Chandler can meet his crush, nominee Julieann Moore.
