I'm going to this! Thank you so much Sara. I wouldn't have known about it. The tickets were actually only $30 each.

Picutre from Cowboys & Indians article, plus a nice quote from one of the horse wranglers: "Timothy [Olyphant] was also really great to work with and was very respectful of both the crew and the horses. He treated the livestock like actors on the set. A lot of the actors are uncomfortable and don’t really want to be on their horse, but Timothy was very gentle and respectful of them."

That is so sweet. Good men are always kind to animals.

I know his dad has horses now but didn’t Tim say once that they had a horse growing up? People who have spent more than a few hours around horses tend to be more comfortable with them. I also wouldn’t expect anything less that kindness and professionalism around horses from Tim just based on what we know about him and his house full of pets.

I don't remember him having a horse growing up. I seem to recall from one of his Deadwood commentaries that he was less than comfortable on horses, but I might be mixing him up with someone else.

Oh wow, I've never seen either of those. Thanks for sharing! Maybe his horse was a jerk during filming? I swear I remember something like that. I will relisten to his Deadwood commentary (which is really funny of course - I wish he had done more episodes) after this rewatch.

I remember him making a joke about being afraid of horses to the execs or whoever that didn’t find it funny. Maybe his horse was stubborn, they can be like that sometimes. I kind of remember something about that now that you mention it.

Very sweet, and insightful. I'm surprised he was so reluctant, though he explains it very well. He always talks about how proud he was of being part of that show, but I think a couple of times he has hinted that his work wasn't that great. In one of the DVD commentaries, he said something like he sounds like an idiot next to Ian McShane. Does anyone else get this impression? Maybe I'm reading too much into it.

No, you are right. He isn’t thrilled with his own work in Deadwood. I think it was his Build interview from last year where he said he didn’t think he was very good in the first season. And on Conan’s podcast he said he felt like a phony playing Seth because it was his first leading man role and he had a difficult time with it. I can’t remember what interview but he also said something like “it’s a great show, I wish I were better in it.” It might have also been build or the nerdiest podcast.

Absolutely heart ❤️ breaking. A MUST READ from the TV critic Matt Zoller Seitz; ALWAYS one of Deadwood’s biggest boosters.

Another "from the set of Deadwood" articles, from Rolling Stone, with great quotes from Tim. He wonders if he may have gotten it canceled in a misunderstanding, and felt relief when it was canceled because of how bad he thought he was in it: ‘Deadwood’ Rides Again
