My dear online friends.
The truth of the matter is my wife and I loved Deadwood and Perfect Getaway.
What we discovered was a great actor who has his head in the right place. He - maybe there is some dirt to be found - is a husband, father and a regular guy who doesn't confuse work with who he is. TO is someone we can identify with. A family guy that doesn't take himself seriously.
So it's always hard for us to separate TO, sometimes, from Rylan. To separate TO/RG from Jimmy Stewart.
I have very limited abilities. I know how to make money legally. I would love to be someone who has a higher purpose in life. And as such, I don't always have your superior insight.
But I can think like a business man. And there is more to gain from a happy RG exit than something else.
So I stick to my happy ending.
Again, doesn't it get back to what is the show trying to say about life?
Love? The criminal justice system? That today, you have to differentiate yourself and take risks to attain. Are we capable of change ... or are we just products of our DNA?
Or is it just fun?
Is it just about - in the so-called golden era of TV - the chance to be the ONE show, years from now - that perfected character and dialog - and went against the grain and had the guts to be a hero-based show?
As simply a business guy ... I choose to to be a contrarian. Justified wins because it is (a) great and (b) distinguishable among the anti-hero mantra began with the Sopranos, and peaking at Breaking Bad. Anyone can imitate what is hot. The real test comes from doing something no one else is doing on TV.

Always wondered why Vasquez never took cases to trial? Dickie killed Helen! Boyd killed Dewey! Maybe I watch too much law and order....but circumstantial cases? If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck..it is a duck. We have watched in this season alone Boyd on some crime spree and he was a sure duck...Raylan must be beyond frustrated!!!! He knows Boyd robbed that bank and still nothing. He found the source of the explosives and the cowards of Harlan keep silent. We need more darn rats!!!

What's-his-name took the fall for Dickie and confessed...so no trial. But Dickie ended up in prison for attempted murder of Loretta, if I'm not mistaken. Correct me if I am. Somehow he's in prison, anyway. No one knows Boyd killed Dewey except for Ava, and Raylan told her there's no evidence. No body. You can't convict or even charge someone with that kind of lack of evidence. With no body, you can't even prove Dewey is dead. Besides, if Vasquez does a fantastic job putting everyone away, there's no story. LOL. Mare, Dolphin is busy dealing with some health issues, but she's going to be fine. I let her know you all are wondering about her.

I think there is going to be more background on Vazquez's real motivations revealed. It has to be more than just a dick. Only two options: 1. He and the federal government left RG in KY on this RICO case to take away his badge. CANT BE THAT. 2. OR, he knew that Duffy killed his boss. We only knew Duffy killed his boss in E10. So Vasquez stood to gain from his boss's demise by getting his job and somehow didn't tell anyone he let Duffy go for killing a District Attorney? Duffy is around. Hence Vasquez is linked to him not being in jail or hanged. You can cut a deal for almost anything. But there is no deal to be cut by killing a DA and walking free. VAZQUEZ IS GOING DOWN. Not Rylan Givens. JC

I'm gonna go with Occam's Razor here and say Vasquez is just a dick.
Justified's plots are usually pretty straightforward and there isn't much time left.
Two episodes. How are we going to survive?
I really hope you are right about Raylan not losing his badge, JCEO; but better his badge than his life.

I so hope you are right. Everyone is so down on Raylan and his biggest defenders you and I seem to see him in a better light. I know we won't get a happy ending...but a promise of a future will satisfy me! On that note...does the concept of Miami concern anyone else...yes he gets Winona and Willa....he also comes face to face...Geo Reyes and the cartel he pissed off..does tommy bucks ring bells? They have made a point of replaying the early stuff...and Buck and Reyes are the basis for Kentucky!!!!

Ripe,
1. Yes you and I are - as WD says - "the keeper of the flame". I have a code. Rylan = hero. Ever other character is simply there to help contrast and compare. I don't care about any other character arcs. FX said this was going to be a hero based show. I believed them. I don't think he is perfect. But he is a hero Also GY was very clear in his post interview yesterday, that Rylan taking off his badge was temporal. "Well, he’s going to do what he’s got to do, and if it means no longer being a marshal FOR THIS PERIOD".
2. While I think there should be more to Vasquez, I have to agree with WKW's Occam Razor argument as to just how many reveals are left. If RG and family ride off into the sunset ... certainly there is no time to ponder what his life in Miami is going to be about. With two hours of TV, this ends at some point, by fading to black. Good or bad.

Two striking remarks!
Winona said home can be anywhere...Miami...Lexington...the hills which to me could be harlan!
Raylan has been trying to sell the family home with no success...the irony would be he stays in Harlan as a sheriff... They need one that can not be corrupted.
Just random thoughts....

Maybe that's the way he will never leave Harlan alive.....by staying.

The problem with the "never leaving Harlan alive" narrative .... is Rylan did leave Harlan alive already.
As to setting down roots in Harlan? How do you write that script and film it?
Some Dexter looking flash forward to Rylan sitting on his rocking chair?
Some Groundhog Day ending with family hand-in-hand saying "let's live here"?
Better yet, a flash forward to Winna shooting her first rifle at 6?
I think everyone knows that Winona and baby are going to come back into the show by the end.
There is only two endings. One with Rylan getting Boyd and restoring his star or him dying.
So either Winona and baby - like Wynn with Mikey - are there to show us the pain of Rylan's death OR the joy of him succeeding.
Where he lives seems to be beside the point. If he is dead it doesn't have any value. And if he succeeds .... anyone can write their own version of where he and family are going.

Hey mine was just random thinking. Truth be told I am grasping at happy scenarios to dodge the fear that after six years Justified could end with no one getting out alive...by everyone we all know I mean Raylan. I want the happy ending...heck the finale is called.....The Promise!!!!! So can we have him badge in one hand and her hand in the other walk out of the holler to a new chance of life love and even happiness?

RIPE,
That is not only what you and I want ... that is the only ending that makes sense.
What doesn't make sense is to have him get to the promised land without just the kind of fear the writers are trying to apply.

TV Guide only took 13 weeks to make Justified in their ten shows to watch category. Matt Roash used to be a huge supporter..guess he hasn't been tuning in this season!
Also there is a nice article about us...Yost lists his favorite episode for each season and they are....fire in the hole, the reckoning, slaughterhouse, decoy and last shot all to hell. I agree on four of five.
For the finale all we get...one final confrontation between Raylan,Boyd and Ava. Meaning they all survive next week.

'book, it's on page 61 for anyone who wants to read it. It's the latest issue. I'm sure you've devoured it already! I've been really busy, plus dealing with medication side effects so I haven't done much research. It may be online and some industrious soul with real computer skills will give us the link. Now I must go lie down.
Happy Easter, everyone!

Actually my issue arrived late and assuming with the finale so close...I wen t on line searching with no luck.
And I get that medication reference...mine fixes serious issues but yeah those side effects sometimes are a bitch to live with. As the saying goes "if it isn't my ass it is my elbow."
And have a happy easter too.

Does anyone remember the quote, it's from S3 or S4 and Raylan says something like "I swear I will lose this star and the dance you and I will do subsequent to that will not end with you finding Jesus in a hospital bed."
Looks like that's what's going down.

Brilliant and yes but the when escapes me! It is so Raylan and Boyd and now I will replay in my head...thinking season four and their confrontations regarding drew Thompson or maybe arlo? I do not think it was about Nicky Augustine! I know the dialogue just can not picture it!

It was season three "when the guns come out". Boyd has set up the oxy clinic in Helen's house and Raylan is one pissed off Givens. Tells Boyd not to bring his family name into his shit. And makes the comment referred to by wkw99. It took thought and then reviewing episodes on Wikipedia... Think I got it...anyone know better?

All, Lax in my response to WKW!
Here are the clues everyone should be looking at 1. Sam Elliot isn't on the E13 cast list, but Boon is. Loretta is there. Constable Bob in E12. NO WINONA in E12 or E13. 2. Markham's unlikely ally spoiler. Duffy? Vasquez? Rylan? My favorite idea is Boyd. They both want the same thing. AND BOYD would THEN OF COURSE TURN ON MARKHAM AND KILL HIM. So long Sam.
As to no Winona - whether she is there or not - I doubt Rylan, if he lives, is going to get any screen time, as to his future. There will be action that eliminates one or all of the big three in the last minutes of the show. And an enough context to perhaps understand what it all could mean for the future.
Beyond that, any screen time for the hero to ride off into the sunset, seems unlikely.
