Dolphin, thanks for that YOST link regarding tribute and Season 5.. That was nice! That was cool, eh? Crowes. I need to go back and listen more carefully to the Dewey Crowe clips from Eps 1 and 2. We know he has kin in Corbin and an uncle in Florida. I think now that Yost and FX have now made official statements about Elmore Leonard's passing, this news cycle should slow down, at least from what it has been the past 24 hours. (There may be some more this weekend with a funeral, of course.) I was really happy that, mostly today, it was corrected in the press that Elmore Leonard didn't like the adaptations of his books. We all know that was not true when it came to Justified. And now the world knows it, too. \

Dolphin, and wkw, I think I was the only person in the world who enjoyed the TV adaptation of "Maximum Bob." It absolutely made me laugh out loud. Elmore Leonard hated it and the critics hated it. It was only on for a very short time. I have the book and am taking it on vacation with me in a few weeks. I could be totally mistaken, but I have the sneaking suspicion that I will see elements of Judge Reardon in the book when I read it. I'll let you know if my suspicions are correct or not after I read it.
I'm glad that Elmore liked what the writers did with regard to Raylan and the books that featured him. It must be every writer's nightmare that someone gets the rights to your work and then decimates it. There is a well known respect for Elmore by the whole Justified team, and he seemed to like what they were doing very much and respected them too. In this messed up world that we life in, it's a joy to see people playing nice with each other and respecting each others talents. I suspect that there is much heaviness of heart among the Justified writers, cast, and crew that will last for a long time. I hope that when they go back to work this fall that they will all take a very deep breath and forge on in honor of Elmore. I'm betting that they will.

I thought I read somewhere in my travels that Judge Reardon was based on Maximum Bob (from Graham Yost is what I'm thinking) ... or maybe someone reached the same conclusion you did, Monday. Yes! Definitely let us know details after you read Maximum Bob. I'm re-reading Pronto.

I just read Pronto, in fact just returned it to the library right before I heard the news about Elmore. I really liked it...now I am thinking I'd like to read it again. Also got The Hot Kid and Glitz from the library today, as I saw them named in one of the recent articles. I'm going to fix a rum and coke for myself tonight and have a toast to Elmore. Wish I had his gift for writing, his ear for dialog.

Wish I had his gift for writing, his ear for dialog. No kidding. I watched him on an old Charlie Rose interview last night, and he said it took him a long time to name his characters. And when he did, he could soon hear him/her talking. Cool, eh? Oh, yeah. And he liked to write 300 page books (not much more than that), and he would write at least 3 pages (long hand) a day. He corrected as he went (I do that). And when he's done, he's done. No revisions. Oh, yeah, and he said he rarely had a ending. He put his lead character into different situations to see what would happen. If it interested him, he figured it would interest others. He also said he doesn't like long, flowery text descriptions. He did his descriptions in dialogue between characters. As an example: Check out how much we learn about Raylan's past from conversations with Boyd. Or with Ava, etc. Amazing. Knowing this from Elmore Leonard and then, seeing how they do it is amazing. Of course, having a researcher like Gregg Sutter would be awesome! Justified should totally hire Gregg.

Hi Dolphin- I wish I had seen that interview, maybe I can find it on line somewhere. I read his "10 Rules About Writing" a couple of years ago...really liked his style...that's great, isn't it, how much you learn about a character from a simple conversation, without a lot a background noise.
I'm going out of town for a couple of days, taking my "new" Elmore Leonard books with me...no access to a computer. It will be a nice break but I will miss this site...I have been logging on here at least daily for quite awhile now and am getting attached, if not addicted to these connections to all of you.
But...more time for reading...have a great week!

Thanks for the links Dolphin, I had just read that Tim attended the funeral. I've been away for the past few days and am now catching up with everything.

From the pictures and articles, it looked like it was a very nice service. Military honors can be quite impressive. It was also nice to know Tim was there. Thanks for sharing the links!

Thanks for the pics, dolphin! Looks like Mrs. O was with him, too. Nice of them all to go. I was hoping TO'd gotten a haircut for the occasion. Guess not. I don't see MCM hovering anywhere in the background.....

Thanks, Dolphin! I've been putzing around the house and just got a chance to read the Free Press now (5:00). Saw the picture with Timothy and Alexis behind the coffin. So glad they and Graham were able to be there.
I know it "wasn't all about HIM" today, but I kept saying, "He was only 90 minutes away......."
sigh

That's closer than I've ever been to him, so I hear you. This past week, Graham seemed to be the spokesperson to the press for the show, which was appropriate. I, too, was happy to see them there, yesterday. Elmore's family had to have been very touched. And yes, I'm very pleased to see they played it low key so that it didn't become all about them (not that it would have been their fault, but that of the press). TO's few quotes were perfect for the occasion, and he had not yet made a statement. They all three look very stricken in the one pic. We can see that Graham is holding a tissue. They are all so lucky to have known one another over these past years, including Elmore's son Peter, and his researcher. Elmore was so good for the show, and the show was/is so good for Elmore and his family. It's all good for us, the fans.

Looks like it was a wonderful tribute to Elmore. He will be missed by so many people and it was good that his nearest and dearest could be there for each other and to eulogize him as he deserved.
AND, wkw, I agree about the haircut or lack thereof. I will even go a step further: he looks dreadful in these pictures. I'm sure that his summer film work is a part of the reason why he looks like this. He csn't possibly come back as Raylan looking like that, can he? If he does, I don't know if I can watch. It would just seem so inappropriate.

We last saw Raylan, suspended, yet on a career high. I suppose they could write him under cover (but that's really a stretch). He could take a leave of absence and stay in Harlan (maybe under cover) to go after Boyd and his new venture. Or he could go off the deep end. But I wouldn't buy either of these. TO's gone the way of Jeff Bridges and Brad Pitt in the long hair and scruff department. I'm hoping it's only temporary for a role. Please let it be temporary.

It could be a personal choice, but I can't believe he thinks he looks good. LOL. I don't mind longer hair, but this is just getting stringy and greasy looking. Ugh. Jeff Bridges always looked good with the scruff. Brad Pitt, too, to a certain point. TO is past that point. Way past. And like you, dolphin, I don't see how they realistically make this work in the show.
