Man, that's bad news. He's looking so frail these days I really worry for him.

This is sad news, but not totally unexpected. Our venerable leader, mcm, who has attended some Leonard appearances in Detroit in years past, said that he was looking very frail. I have lived through this, as my mom had a stroke at this age after being very vital up to that point. I wish Mr. Leonard a quick and total recovery. He is a great talent and is much loved.

Awwww, I hadn't heard. So sad. Elmore has been looking and seeming very aged. Time is a friend to no man.

A good friend once said to me that the way to avoid these things is to never get old. Wouldn't it be wonderful if it were that easy?

So sorry to hear this. Hope his recovery goes well. Yes, Mondayschild, if only we could just avoid getting old.

Elmore Leonard has passed away and I'm gutted. We've lost a legend. This will be a very quiet day in the Justified writer's room. RIP Elmore. You will be sadly missed.

Oh, wow. What news to wake up to. RIP Elmore Leonard and condolences to your family, in and out of the industry. I am honored to have gotten to know your work and to be your fan. Update:Best known for “Get Shorty,” “Out of Sight” and most-recently the FX series “Justified,” Leonard was surrounded by his family at the time of his death, his researcher, Gregg Sutter, told FOX411. "The post I dreaded to write, and you dreaded to read. Elmore passed away at 7:15 this morning from complications from his stroke. He was at home surrounded by his loving family. More to follow," Sutter posted on Facebook. www.foxnews.com/entertainment/2013/08/20/elmore-leonard-dies-three-weeks-after-stroke/#ixzz2cWycQT6T

I heard about this earlyer today. I loved his movies and stories. He was a very talented writer and I'm sure Elmore will be missed by many. I said a prayer for him, then I thought.... Someone should say "Fire in the hole" when they bury him.

A good friend once said to me that the way to avoid these things is to never get old. Wouldn't it be wonderful if it were that easy?[/quot I agree with your friend, but then is a person who wishes not to get old taking chances in order to live LIFE. With life comes the risk to live or die. I've seen it from the other side, as you know. Here's another link. www.chicagotribune.com/entertainment/chi-elmore-leonard-dies-20130820,0,3867868.story

Thanks, westtexas. You are very wise. I was being facetious. Every step we take, every crisis that we weather, every joy that we experience adds to making up who we are. And aging is like the weather. There's not a darn thing we can do about it. The more gracefully we can accept it the better. Just wish I was better at it.(Maybe if I had less pain.)

Oh, hell. Guess I'll figure out this forum eventually. Crap. Don't even worry about the formatting, WT. Your sweet message comes through loud and clear. We've all had adventures in trying to figure out this new Proboards version. It will come.

Until you posted ... it never even crossed my mind to visit the FX site (for this or any other reason). That is just sad. I never go unless you remind me, MCM. I just don't think to go anymore.
