Part of his swagger is an effort to not appear pigeoned toe, which he is. Instead of putting his legs straight out in front they kind of swing to the side a bit. In some pap shots ( where he's either not bothered or doesn't realise he's being watched, he does turn his toes in. His son does the same thing, his toes turn in at an almost 45 degree angle. Not a criticism, just an observation..the man could not be sexier...no matter how he walks:)

He really is, him starting competitive swimming from such a young age might of exacerbated it. Every swimmer, paddles their feet a little pigeon toes. Although clearly ( with his son walking the same way) genetics have played their part. I've seen him wear a knee brace in tennis pics and to be honest he didn't do much running in the show ( loved the line about his boots not being made to run in and Tom saying isn't running part of the job!

I was pidgeon-toed as a child and wore corrective shoes. It didn't totally correct the problem. I suspect that wkw's doctor friend is right. I've had both of my hips replaced. After decades of wear and tear on what was probably an inborn tendency, I was becoming pidgeon-toed again. Not to mention the pain. Hope Timothy doesn't have to go through this, but we've commented on this over the last six years.

Sorry you've had so much trouble with your hips. My left leg is half inch shorter than my right. Not noticeable to see but it puts my pelvis out of wack and causes me lowr back pain. My sister has the same thing, same leg and it affects how her knee works.

Thanks all! I feel so welcomed! The picture IS so Raylan. You can't even see his face really but it's one of sexiest shots of character out there (IMO). Just goes to show it's about attitude more than looks. But of course, instead of seeing his face, you do get to see those loose HIPS, like you said. And all the bulging in all the right places... Hi guys! I'm loving this thread. Only discovered Justified a couple weeks ago, and so Timothy also. I'm fascinated by how he moves! Anyway, I'm botherin' you cuz a bunch of ya seem over the moon about lbookie's avatar, and the darn thing won't render for me! (I s'pose I could switch over to the real computer and try instead of my phone, but then I wouldn't get to say hi to all you folks!) My vernacular's a little slanted because I just marathoned Justified straight through the entire series and jumped right into Deadwood. Can't. Get. Enough. Olyphant. I need to know what your avatar is, lbookie! It sounds awesome! :-)

Isn't Raylan just the coolest and sexiest marshal? I get you binging seriously. I watched it each season but have my favorite episodes on my tablet so I can get a Justified fix at any time! Having binged...do you have favorites? We voted and consensus was that finale....The Promise! What a great way to end that gem. Best show ever!!!! Surprising the list includes a lot of Winona and Raylan yet over the seasons she was a "topic" of much discussion!

I think there's something wrong with one of his legs. I'm not familiar with him or what else i might have seen him in but I recently started watching Deadwood & immediately noticed something strange about the way he walk. It has a certain intention to it. Like when most of us walk we don't think about it, we're not conscious of it. But with him it looks like he's thinking about it. Then at the end of Season 02 episode 01 when he wont go into the house with his wife in son - He turns and walks down the stairs & you can clearly see severe limp in his right leg. I searched online and found no mention of his strange walk anywhere but here or any mention of a disability. It seems like he might have a problem with his back or hip..like maybe he's broken his back before or has a fused hip. Check out Deadwood Season 02 episode 01 at the very end where he walks away from his wife on sone standing on the proch. You can clearly see somethings wrong with his leg.

His walk has been referred to as "foreplay" and trust the many broads on this site..we agree. He plays tennis a lot and wears a brace on one knee..may be the real issue. Watch Justified to sample the sexy walk and stance. He was a swimmer in high school and college...a very good swimmer. And yeah this lady notices that walk.

If memory serves, didn't he just get beaten by Al and took a fall from the balcony of the Gem, before that scene with Martha and son...maybe that was him "acting" wounded...just a thought. But he does have a distinctive walk in general...

Distinctive walk...on does he ever. Personally I love how he takes the steps into his motel...many men do two steps at one time..Raylan distinctive way of taking single steps just caught my attention!!!!

He's pigeon toed. That's why he walks that way. It will probably cause me and or hip problems eventually. He's at the right age for that to start bothering him.

The other thing I noticed....in the opening scenes of Catch and Release he was standing making a move on the caterer and look at the way one leg....the way his calf jets out backwards....he was 39 at the time...there are spots in Justified where we see that but not as pronounced as in that movie scene. I know a bit obsessed with Mr. Yummy.

Yes that's true but what it looked like as he walked down the stairs was like he was dragging his right foot...almost like someone with Palsy might do with his foot turned in. Someone else posted he is pigeon toed, that could explain it.

Here, here! I second, third, or fourth TO's sexy walk. It's unusual, very unique. Very noticeable. And hot. My first ever Justified ep was Reckoning from Season 2. It starts off with Raylan stepping through the bloody crime scene of his aunt's murder in slow motion. The way his feet twisted and turned in those boots! I'll never forget it.

And that episode garnered an Emmy nomination. Appreciate for acting and that walk that so defined Raylan's emotions!

Welcome, Ibookie! You are in good company, among TO fanatics. What I have noticed is that he is noticeably 'flexible' in the joints. (My sister is too. I don't know the proper name for it ... maybe hyper flexible joints? My sis calls it being 'double jointed,' but it's not literally double jointed.) It's not a bad thing. Quite the contrary. Many gymnasts have this quality. Maybe some swimmers, too? I first noticed 'it' in the first Justified ep I ever saw: Season 2, Reckoning. When he first walks into his Aunt Helen's house and they show his boots walking around evidence markers and blood spatters on the floor. His ankles effortlessly twist and turn and (that would hurt most of us IF we could even do it ... My sis can do it, too). Sometimes looking a little 'pidgeon toed' but not all the time .... only when it suits his movement. And I've noticed it other times, too. It makes his walk (which we CRAZY LOVE!!!) so cat-like and sexy. He's fluid when he moves. He's like Gumby! It is truly subtle and unique and sets him apart in more than all his obvious ways. Anyway, that's my take.

It's "hypermobility syndrome" I have it, like I leave my foot in one position and sort of just twist my body around (left or right) to reach something. I can't to that much anymore as I'm 66, have arthritis and a multitude of spine problems. TI reminds me of someone or else I've seen him in some movie I can't remember. He's a cutie ;-)

Cutie sounds good. His walk or saunter to me is foreplay. There were several walks into the marshal service and up to Art's glass wall that I watch...rewind and watch again. It is very distinctive and love to watch...more reasons to miss Raylan.

My husband has the same walk. I first noticed it when we were on vacation. Funny that I hadn't before but, I watched him walk to the cabin from the pool room. I thought to my self, wow, what a stride... He swam for a school, and in TO's life, he was a swimmer. I wonder if it has something to do with that... When I see him stud strutting like TO, I only want to... You know the rest... Hehe

His stride reminds me of Henry Fonda.
