That's a great interview. Another writer paying attention to much he's transformed as an actor. But still bringing in the trash cans himself.
One thing I was confused by - was he saying David Milch was the one who stole the gold teeth? I thought he meant David was relaying a story about someone else but then he mentions it happened at a low point in his life.
But then he says nobody else remembered the story so we're left wondering if any of it happened at all!

I noticed that about the teeth story as well. Maybe it was just poor choice of words when Tim was telling it or perhaps it was the way it was written down that made it unclear. And who knows maybe Tim completely made it but thinks it's real. I do find it odd that anyone would forget that story after hearing it. But maybe Kim and Molly weren't there or as he said weren't paying attention. I know I have had stories like that where I remember something but nobody else does and then I'm questioning if it actually happened or if I dreamt it.
I had to laugh as I was reading about him bringing in the trash, the Brian Williams reference and the talk about the hat. Tim is definitely a man of the people. I would love to just sit down with him, have a couple drinks and shoot the shit for a couple hours.

Fantastic. And from their Emmy magazine.... hint, hint, Emmy voters. I'm rewatching Justified and just saw the episode where Raylan points out the picture of the old Marshals and says maybe he should grow a mustache. Definitely a reference to his days on Deadwood. Here's a bigger version of the pic from their slideshow:

Hah! Yes, it's a funny one too. I wonder if we compiled all his quotes from interviews into a document and spit out a word cloud, which would be the most-used words? I wish journalists would stop bringing up the hats. I can tell he's sick of it! I just read an article about Mykelti Williamson, who wore mouth prosthetics for his roles in Forrest Gump and Justified, and he seemed just as annoyed that they brought it up. I think it has to do with the fact that A) they get asked about it constantly by people who think they're being clever and B) that it has nothing to do with their actual performances.

I suppose the hat questions is their clever way of asking Tim about typecasting. Its not a very good way to do it and can definitely be misconstructed but thats how I interpreted it. He's played a cowboy-esque character is several projects now. It really just shows that people can't come up with original thoughtful questions anymore. The Indiewire interview the woman interviewing him said all she had written down on her notepad to talk about was "Hat" but she had no idea where she was going with it, she played it off well (if somewhat clumsily) and it turned into an entertaining bit where Tim talked about acting with props and Ricky Jay. But most of the time its just a stupid question that you can tell he's getting sick of answering. He made it known in a subtle, kind way, that he is indeed tired of talking about the hats.
I've noticed that Tim is always very complimentary of interviewers when they come up with an original/thoughtful question that isn't completely ridiculous and is actually related to acting.

Great article. Some new thoughts from TO. I couldn't read this without subscribing but I was able to get the text by archiving it. For anyone else: archive.is/qmFeb

Thanks for the WSJ archive link superglue. I think I also missed the EW interview with Tim. Nice to hear some different thoughts and questions in each article. So many lately have been so similar without any real new information from the actors.
