Time for a new thread. It's not longer Deadwood movie??? but Deadwood movie!!!I cannot wait. Only one punk reviewer is keeping the show away from having a perfect 100% rating at Rotten Tomatoes. It's 98% certified fresh. I wonder if Tim will rewatch it when it airs? Or go to a watch party? His career has really hit a new peak and I couldn't be happier for him.

I’m watching now, about half way through. Really good so far. Hearst is just as awful as he ever was. And Tim is fantastic as Seth, he’s definitely more comfortable in the role than he was the first time around.

Watching now.... Had to finish my rewatch before I started. Went straight from the final episode into the film. Somehow people seem so much more than 12 years older. I wanted to cheer when he first showed up on screen. Can you imagine how it must have been to be at the screening, when the audience saw each familiar character? I bet he got a huge cheer. I also noticed that his voice is a whole octave lower now. Ian's too. What great casting for the girl to play the grown up Sofia. wow, I love how he plays this believably astonished and lovestruck, just with a subtle facial expression around the eyes. Molly too. Tim's performance quality is at a whole new level. And I am picking up on Raylan. Bullock suddenly has a pronounced southern accent that he never had before and couldn't have picked up in Deadwood unless he spent all his time with Charlie Udder. I'm afraid he's going to criticized for it or they'll think he's recycling Raylan... Accent is coming and going. It's so noticeable to me but hopefully the Emmy voters will not pick up on it. OK back to watching this!

I think this may very well be Tim's best performance of his career (so far). I didn't notice the accent really but I did get strong Raylan vibes at certain points. When he tells Al his "job isn't to follow the law, it's to interpret it" he reminded me of Raylan SO much. It might have been the way he said interpret so maybe it was the accent. I loved his scenes with Mrs Ellsworth, especially during the auction. The intensity of their gazes and the hug they shared after. <3
You could tell that Seth still had all that rage but didn't let it control him to the same extent it used it. Another favorite scene was with the angry mob in the street, the look he gets from Martha and he decides he needs to put an end to the madness rather than let the mob take care of the problem for him which would have been so easy to do.
I think I'm gonna have to watch again tomorrow.
Tim really hit the ball out of the park with this one. The emmy voters better take notice. He really deserves a best actor nomination and a win.

Oh don't get me wrong, he is tremendous. I was really struck by the difference between Seth in the series and Seth in the film. He really crushed it. Since he went through the training to learn how to speak that way, it's difficult to get rid of it when you're around all these characters with Southern accents like Charlie, Trixie, Dan, etc. I hope I'm the only one who can detect the accent thing. I will have to rewatch it several times. The only really weird thing to me is all the flashbacks!
I think the movie is a lock for a nom which means Tim will be nominated too. I hope he's a sure thing for an acting nom. It's him, McShane and whatever Benedict Cumberbatch was in this year, not sure what else was out there.
Did you spot Garret Dillahunt?

Yay for Tim and the Deadwood movie! I wish alll of us could have watched it together! My sis, who is not a Tim fan, came by just as the credits opened! I almost told her to get lost, but she promised not to interrupt by Tim ecstasy As soon as she saw Tim/Seth, she yelled that he was old and ugly and I had to take a minute to show her the thread on his GQ interview and dreamy photos. Then I asked her to please leave my home so I can enjoy my man in his Emmy-winning performance! I restarted the movie and settled in — Tim and everyone rocked this movie! I was crying and laughing and drooling over Tim and his amazing self! I did notice Tim’s accent but it just showed that he had learned and matured so much since the series that he upped his game and made Seth shine as a beautiful man who is wiser and even hotter than before. When they flashed Seth and Molly in their younger years I may have drooled over the younger Tim, but for me, the more mature and seasoned Tim is much better ❤️😍🎉🍾💃🏿🍷 This is a man who has walked the walk and is ready to step into all that he is and has always been growing into! Our Tim deserves an Emmy for this one! I can’t wait to hear his acceptance speech! And there will be tears...his and ours! Time for a rewatch! ♥️♥️👏👏👏🎶🎈

angellovestim, your sister would have had a can of peaches thrown at her head in my presence! He really was amazing. This scene in particular when he cries shows how he's upped his game. I don't recall ever seeing actual tears rolling down his cheeks before, just tears in his eyes, in this show and Justified. I've always been super impressed at actors who can cry on cue because this is beyond me. This takes so much concentration. I'm blown away. He was AMAZING in his scenes with Molly and Anna. That kiss with Anna at the end was beautiful. "Hope you die in the street like my dad did!" Ha ha ha Garret Dillahunt

Ugh I forgot the movie was combined with the miniseries category... That means they will have to compete with True Detective, A Very English Scandal, Chernobyl, etc. I feel a little more dismayed. Oh Emmy Gods...

I'm watching again now. The accent is noticeable but like you said it comes and goes and appears to be more noticeable with certain words. It was pretty heavy during Seth's speech at Charlie's burial though. Another thing I noticed, in the Gold Derby interview Tim did, the interviewer is certain that Seth says "without" when telling Dan to stay back while he goes after Hearst's 2 guys. Tim says he recalled the line being "With Al" and chalks it up to bad acting if it came out as 'without" but I very very clearly heard "with Al" in that scene so I think the interviewer was just hard of hearing. It was great to see Garett Dillahunt again. "I hope you die in the street like my dad did!" I had wondered if that would be his line when Tim brought it up on Rich Eisen. How awesome that he was able to play 3 characters across the series/movie. I thought the guy in the wagon at the beginning who Charlie was throwing things to looked a bit like Jim Beaver but I don't think it was him. Jim does have an imdb credit for the movie but only as "Whitney Ellsworth" for the flashback I suppose. I didn't think the flashbacks were necessary either but I suppose they put them in to remind people of the events of the series it they didn't rewatch before seeing the movie. Loved the scene where Seth burns the telephone poles too. Taking matters into his own hands against Hearst. I also thought Tim's scene with Samuel was really lovely. He did great showing the emotion with the tears rolling down his face. Another thing I noticed was that the swearing didn't seem to be as abundant as it was in the series. The F word was used pretty liberally but it seemed like cocksucker was only used a couple of times. So Miniseries and TV movie had been combined into one category but that decision has been reversed so Outstanding TV Movie is back on its own now. So Deadwood won't have to compete with those series. Unfortunately, TV movie actor does not have its own category so Tim and Ian will be up against those actors for "Outstanding Actor in a Miniseries or Movie". I looked at early Emmy predictions on various sites and for the most part Deadwood is a front runner in the tv movie category but the actor category is all over the place. EW has Ian listed as a front runner but not Tim. The Hollywood Reporter has both Ian and Tim listed as 'major threats' but not front runners. We will just have to wait until July 12 to find out if Tim's second run as Seth Bullock will be enough to get him a nomination.

That yesterday was the last day of Emmy eligibility hardly seems accidental; HBO’s push should be substantial.

I feel really good about it winning this category as TV Movie. It just seems like destiny for it to win though we will have to see. Mahershala Ali was incredible in True Detective so I'm guessing he's the favorite, but I'm still hopeful for the best. And of course there's also the Golden Globes. I'm going to watch again tonight. I really wish they could have killed George Hearst but I knew Milch wouldn't take such liberties with historical facts.

Here's a nice article from The Wrap with Tim on how much influence his Deadwood costars have had on him. Goes a little more in depth on what kind of things he's stolen from his co stars.

That's cute. John Hawkes seems like the nicest guy. I'm really surprised we never saw him in Justified.
I wonder what the next 10 years will bring to Tim's career? A decade ago he was on the verge of Justified. As much as he enjoys not working, I really, really hope he will get another great TV project. He really would be amazing in Fargo, which I highly recommend to any of you who haven't seen it yet.

NPR repackaged an interview with David from 2004 and Tim from 2011. www.ijpr.org/post/revisiting-deadwood-star-timothy-olyphant-and-creator-david-milch#stream/0I don't think I've heard it before since Tim tells the story about staring at David during the audition, that was new to me. He also mentions that he had to learn how to ride horses for the show. So maybe he didn't know how to ride a horse despite having them growing up? The idiot interviewer needs to be smacked. I thought it was borderline rude how she said the set was grimy and nasty, and stupid to ask, "Why would anyone move there?" Tim's like, "because they actually did, lady!" He has patience to stay charming... I would get ticked off.

I’ve heard the NPR interview with Tim before, he was promoting Justified. But I can’t remember if everything from the above interview was included or not. I know the stuff about the horses was but I’m not sure about him getting the part. I remember not being a fan of the woman interviewing Tim though. A lot of things were grimy and nasty back then lady, they didn’t have indoor plumbing or electricity when any of these towns were established.

right, and the fact that there were all these violent, shady characters, that's part of what made the show great!

This is an excellent in-depth analysis of the movie. I'm glad he called out just how much Tim has improved since 2006 while also pointing out he's too hard on his own performance in the series.
I think this is a lock for Emmy nomination for Best TV Film and I pray it wins. I am worried about Black Mirror: Bandersnatch (which was a standalone film) as the favorite because of how groundbreaking it was, but the fifth season of Black Mirror (that they delayed releasing until after the Emmy deadline) was so shockingly awful and disappointing that I wonder if it will subconsciously influence some of the voters toward Deadwood (which deserves it)...
