Variety was never a big fan so I can hope for better...try Gold Derby as the voting began yesterday. Did you catch the Tonys...thought they were well done.

last I saw Gold Derby doesn't have Guest Actor/Actress categories...
Yes, I saw the Tonys, fantastic and beautifully done. I love James Corden and I'm so happy he's doing so well.

According to various people on twitter, Timothy's name isn't on the ballot because his name wasn't submitted for consideration. Unfortunate - I'm sure he would've wanted to have been considered.

Are you kidding me??? He won the Critics Choice Award and they didn't submit his name for an Emmy?! Whose colossal fuck up is this?

I thought actors/shows put themselves forward for consideration for the initial voting?

I would imagine the shows/networks/producers/agents are all on top of it. I don't think it's up to the actors to do it themselves.

I meant that I thought it was an actor's choice whether to put themselves forward via the show/network/producer/agent for consideration. Maybe the fact that Tim was playing 'Timothy Olyphant' was a consideration? I should probably just google how the voting process works!

Could the cancellation of Grinder have anything to do with this f... up? ?

I'd be very surprised if TO insisted they not submit him for consideration, considering he won the Critics' Choice. Even Conan mentioned Emmy buzz and TO seemed quite proud. I don't think it matters if he was playing "himself" because it was most definitely playing a part, and it was a great performance. I have a feeling it has more to do with the show being canceled and "guest performer" not being one of the major categories... You would think that the network people would take a look at all their shows and say, "OK, here's everything we should nominate," and then if they're nominated, the actor/actress has final say on which of the episodes they should put forth. As far as I know they can nominate as many people as they want in each category, so it's not like they have some kind of strategy. With all the "For your consideration" ads up on Gold Derby, you can see these are big deals for the networks and production companies, but then again I don't know how these things work either.

Could the cancellation of Grinder have anything to do with this f... up? ? Shows still get nominated even after cancelation (and occasionally even win), but I have a feeling if the network sucks enough to cancel it that they suck enough not to give any thought to Guest Actor possibilities. I did see Fred Savage's name on Gold Derby, so I think he may be on the ballot?

Here's the direct link to the acting nominees - like 125 people nominated in the guest actor/comedy category, but no TO!!! I'm reading the discussion about the ballot on the Gold Derby forum. Some wise person named John wrote: It seems like a lot of people (especially eager newcomers) do submit themselves out of vanity, but the studios also do the submissions, so yes, there is no excuse for not submitting your Critics Choice Award winner.

What a bummer! There's an article in TV Guide - www.tvguide.com/news/8-things-we-learned-from-the-emmy-ballots/"Timothy Olyphant won't grind to the Emmys: But by far the most egregious absence is Olyphant for his delightfully obtuse turn as himself on the dearly departed The Grinder. Look, I totally get Fox not shelling out dough for FYCs for a canceled show (you also have to pay an Emmy submission fee), so this is on his peeps. Dude won the Critics' Choice Award for his guest spot. This oversight is not [Justified]" So Fox didn't want to pay for Emmy submission but TO's management assumed Fox would put him forward (as he had already won the Critics Choice award)? Really got to wonder if TO's management do their job properly. Does that throw some light on why our favourite actor doesn't seem to get the big movie roles we'd expect?

wow, seriously, over money? What is it for an entry fee, $50? $5,000? I'm glad TV Guide pointed out this very glaring omission and said it was the most egregious absence by far, because apparently there are a few (ie, Ian McShane not getting in for guest actor for GOT). That says something for TO's awesomeness. I hope he can take heart in that.
I don't know if his people suck or what. He seems pretty picky about his roles. Except for Iron Man, I don't know of any roles he has gone out for that he has not gotten. It seems like clueless Hollywood doesn't know what to do with him. I don't think they take him seriously enough for comedy because he's so good looking, but I don't think action star is where he belongs either. Justified on a whole was underappreciated. I really hope Santa Clarita Diet is as good as it sounds, and he wins an Emmy for that, because he really is fantastic at comedy and Netflix is a huge player now.

Wow...does this indicate his publicists are not doing their job? He won already and there have been Emmy talk....why is he constantly bypassed? Is this also due to his people? Deadwood? Justified? There is serious history here!!!!!!!

seriously, I don't know what is going on but this sucks and maybe his people are at fault. The thing is, I can't see TO ever kicking those people to the curb and saying "You don't work hard enough to get me awards!" That's not what he's about. Obviously they can't guarantee he wins but at the minimum they can see he gets submitted for effing consideration. At the same time, he is humble, so I can see them saying, "Hey Tim, do you want to spend $10k (or whatever) to submit your name for an Emmy for Best Guest Actor in a Comedy?" and him saying, "nah, chances are slim of winning against Larry David or whatever." I don't know, wish we had the scoop here.
Has he been with the same agent/agency for a long time? Does anyone know?

As I understand it Tim doesn't have an agent, he has a manager, Colton Gramm, who works for a big agency called Brillstein Entertainment Partners.
Don't know how long he's been with him, quick google shows that Colton joined Brillstein in 2004 and brought clients including Tim with him from his previous company.
I'm not sure how a manager works differently to an agent. Whatever that difference is might possibly have a bearing on how Tim's career progresses.
He also has a publicist, Cara Tripicchio at ShelterPr. She's the lady with the dark ponytail you can spot in the background in some pics/videos guiding Tim through photos calls and interviews at red carpet type events.

OK, that sort of makes sense I guess. I know someone who is a manager for athletes and they do it all. Explanation here for Hollywood. I think if he had an agent, they would be a lot more quick to pimp him out for awards shows, media appearances and roles and he prefers to not go that route.

That answers manager vs agent question very well. I didn't realise there was a legal difference. Maybe TO is a reluctant film star! re cost of submission, looks like it was $200 back in 2014 for a individual emmy member to submit an entry according to this pdf: www.emmys.com/sites/default/files/Downloads/pte14_rulesandproced_v7.pdfEdit: or one free entry if you're an academy member.

When he is not in the running he says it's a free night with the family and maybe awards really don't matter! Except he did seem happy with that critics choice award. Just too many oversights does concern me. He was brilliant on deadwood and of course Justified as we came to know his acting and producing skills! I admit reviewing that emmy list and being shocked he was not on the list!!!! Absolutely shocked!!!!!

I think he would have loved a nomination. He joked a lot about the Emmy nom but it surely meant a lot to him. I remember in the Nerdist podcast (which was so great, I hope he does another one) when he talked about his PR people letting him know about Golden Globe etc noms and how he was happy that he had forgotten they were coming out. It's a lot cooler to not care. So he's not preoccupied with them (maybe why he didn't inquire with his manager/PR people to make sure Fox had submitted his name?) but I bet he would have been honored.
BTW, Rob Lowe is getting a Comedy Central Roast. I would die of happiness if TO was one of the roasters.

I would be over the moon...his sense of humor is dry and perfect. Rob Lowe would be lucky to have him.
