I am sad to see the end of Justified. For five years I was thoroughly entertained. For one year, not so much. LOL.
I wanted to take a minute to share what I know about the peeps behind the show. I have had the opportunity to visit the set a couple of times and have met many of the cast and crew. I was blown away by how hard they work, how much they care about the end result, their attention to detail, and what a lovely group of people they are, especially in light of a fairly brutal production schedule.
There are a couple of unsung heros who need mentioning.
First and foremost is Don Kurt. He has been on screen, but I'm not sure he was credited. He is the line producer, meaning he is top guy on the set in Santa Clarita. Yost spends a lot of time with the writers in Santa Monica but Kurt gets it all pulled together on set and on location (his son works with him as location scout).
Second, is Dave Blass, season 1-5 set designer. He is one of the nicest guys I have ever met and he is a master at his craft. He gave us such genuine Kentucky from a sound stage in California on a basic cable budget. He scoured a lot of stuff off ebay, like all the KY license plates on the walls of Limehouse's.
Third, is Charlie Almanza, the former US marshal who is the tech advisor. Such a nice guy you would not guess he has some wild stories from back in the day. The cast and crew consulted him often, they wanted to get the smallest details correct. Tim: Raylan's got to shoot this guy, how many shots? Charlie: three taps, just like we learned at the academy. Tim: this is Justified, how about more? Charlie: No, Raylan's a professional, he would shoot three. (Note: four shots are in the final scene LOL). He pitched some stories, some made it in, and some didn't. He always wanted Raylan on a plane - he thought marshals moved around more than Raylan did. Damn budgets!
So, hats off to them and the couple of hundred other people who worked so hard on this show.
Because you might ask, Tim is an awesome guy. He is kind and funny and warm and a hugger and way too skinny. I don't think I truly appreciated is acting skills until I met the valley dude who couldn't be any less like Raylan. Aviators tucked in the neck of his t-shirt, ripped jeans, flip flops all the way. He has an impressive ability to turn Raylan off and on. Since he is sooooo involved in every aspect of the show he hangs around a lot even when he isn't shooting. He really isn't a fan of 'the hat'. I heard him joke, when he had, once again, left his gun somewhere, leaving my gun laying around is no problem, you should see them panic when I tell them I can't find the hat.
Well, it was nice while it lasted. Sigh.

Thanks for introducing us to the real people! Always thought timothy was likely very dedicated and very much into the craft and not the star trip too many care about. I do wish after this spectacular season the show and actors would get recognition! Timothy, Walton and Joelle were fantastic the entire six years but this season they were perfect! I thank them for every minute Justified filled TV with the best show ever.

Thanks for sharing! I have always thought Dave Blass did an incredible job of setting the stage...didn't realize he is not there this year. I especially liked the set for Nobles and Limehouse's restaurant. The detail was amazing. And your comments about Tim, oh my god. Wish I could have been there to see him in action. He has a "zen" about him, don't you think? In spite of saying he plays a cool character on screen unlike himself, I think he has plenty of "coolness" of his own. Thanks for your comments.

Yes, Mare27, he is very often zen when hanging out. But I'm not sure zen and his passion for his work necessarily go together. He really cared about the show and I have seen him defend his point of view heatedly. I may or may not have seen an unnamed writer make a psycho stabbing motion at Tim's back after a discussion of what lines would be better than what was in the script. This is TO - kind of zen - reading his sides (mini script) between takes. Picture isn't great because cameras during filming were a no no. i1110.photobucket.com/albums/h457/oldcapecod/7b2c360f1876122f1f6f2942ea5915eb_zps8ojcosuv.jpg

LJ I'm so glad you are finally out! LJ is the real deal, kids. A fine and lucky lady indeed, and it couldn't have happened to a nicer gal. I've kept her secret for a loooong time.
LJ, do you know why Dave Blass Moved on? To be honest, I hadn't realized it. Also, what did you think of DP Francis Kenny? I've always though he was a genious.
P.S. How is your little Mathelete?

Hi MCM,
Seemed like time, there's been so much 'wonder what he's like' speculation over the years.
Thanks for helping me funnel some good spoilers to the group that way. It made for some amusing discussions, especially with a certain member who was going to the mat over the origin of 'the hat'. I talked to Tim's wardrobe guy, I held the hat in my hands, yet I couldn't for the life of me convince him I knew what I was talking about. LOL. It makes me sad to think of the empty sound stage. I wonder whatever happened to the missing cat notice I snuck on to Raylan's tack board beside his desk? He hasn't been at his desk much lately.
I think Dave's main motivation was to go when he had a good offer. I think the set possibilities of Constantine intrigued him although living in Atlanta maybe less so. he knew Justified was ending and had to move on when he could.
IMHO Francis Kenny does amazing work. A real artist, he is quiet and thoughtful. No offense but he is a strange ranger. He doesn't often speak to people - just whispers to his assistants and they pass on the instructions. Did I ever send you pictures of him? He looks like bruce jenner, the current bruce jenner. Maybe with a little more make up.
At States my mathlete's team beat another team. It was their goal not to be last, so mission accomplished. LOL. Some of those teams need to get a life.
See you over at Hueligans.com I hope.

I am absolutely in tears. I always yell at my husband for starting to change the channel before the "stay tuned for scenes". This week, I didn't have to do that. Wow. No more new Justified. So much enjoyment. 78 hours spent with some of the coolest characters ever on television. I guess the only thing to do is get out those DVDs and start over again, playing one show a week until it's done again. I haven't been around much for the past few months, but I've always been with the rest of you on Tuesday nights and thinking of you with great fondness, wishing we could watch together. Thanks for all the chat and fellowship. Here's to "Snowden" and the coming "occasions of Timothy Olyphant"! I can't wait. sniffle

Sooo interesting to read your post LJ and confirmation that Tim is a lovely guy behind the scenes, that he was willing to butt heads to get a line changed be caused it bettered the scene( most likely giving a funny line away to another actor to, I'm sure I read somewhere about him giving his funny lines to the other actors)is wonderful. Quite often the 'face' presented to fans and the press , is far removed from how someone is. The seemingly sweet can be awful to work with and those that you'd think will be total assholes can be anything but. On occasion I've dreaded my day. When I've been told who I' m PAing for but have ended up being totally surprised at how lovely, generous and entertaining an actor/ actress has been. I do think I get to see the real person , at least a bit. It's very hard to put on a fake smile for a non stop 10 hour day. Of course the flip side is that a few actors/ actresses, I thought were lovely ( before I worked with them) have been horrid, divaish and disrespectful to their fans.
