I've seen several reviews that compare TIWILY to 'August' and I don't understand the comparison at all. The only thing the two movies have in common is a family coming together. The issues in August are much deeper and darker, and the tone is very depressing. Watching it I never got past the 'acting' (which was superb) but they never became real.
Even from only the previews I think TIWILY accomplishes that.

I agree. Because there is one film out there about the father's death and the family's reaction, there should never be another? That's insane. I saw August Osage County and I could not wait for it to end so I could leave. It did have a few memorable performances or moments, but it was so dark and depressing and mean spirited and sad...it's got nothing to do with this new film. I left a comment on the review from the Chicago paper. I hope they will publish it. I think if we disagree we should speak up. I encouraged people to see for themselves and not let this reviewer determine whether they would like it. Maybe you'd like to add your own comment there?

I never saw this film and couldn't comment on the comparison, but you said what I long suspected. He did love TO's performance. (Not everyone did, which I do not get.)

Quote: Olyphant's quiet, brief onscreen moments are some of the movie's strongest.
Yes! Here's hoping for more good character roles for him.
I can't believe I'm waiting a week to see it!!
