From Roger Ebert.com, narrated by Jim Beaver: This was wonderful to watch! It's been about 2 yrs since I watched "Deadwood" and this made me want to start it again. The characters, the dialog, the setting, the story, the costumes...OMG. And didn't TO look so young and yummy! LOL! Thanks for posting this! Maybe we should watch Deadwood "together" after S5 and share our impressions?

This took me back. I guess Al is the favorite character of many viewers, but I loved Calamity Jane. Whenever I cite her as my favorite I have to stop myself and remember that I also loved Dan Doritty, E.B. Farnum and his dogsbody, Richardson, Wu, Doc Ellsworth, Charlie, the preacher. The list goes on. Timothy and Alma are the icing on the cake.
Thanks for this Dolphin. It warmed me up on another cold day. Come on, Spring. And count me in if you want to discuss.

That was interesting. I never got past the middle of S2 with Deadwood. The violence really got to me. Don't know if I'd get any farther watching it again, but I might try. (And I still might pop in on discussion, regardless, since I am totally spoiled!)

Never watched Deadwood, but Seth sounds a lot like Raylan. I might have to get the series on DVD and take a weekend to binge watch.

wkw, the violence is tremendous, I agree. At times I just looked away because the characters and the story were so great. (Actually, the cursing was what got me down sometimes.)

Oddly enough it was the cursing that I found hard to listen too the first time I tried to watch it, but I kept with it and thought it was one of the best television I have ever seen.

I watched Deadwood for the first time a couple of years ago. Watched all three seasons in a month or so. I just love it. It's where I first got interested in Tim. It's one of my favorite shows.
Thanks for the link to the article wkw.
it is really violent, but I was a fan of Dexter, so it wasn't any worse than that.

Thanks for this, hard to believe it's been 10 years. If a person is interested in more facts and explanations, I would recommend watching the extras on the Deadwood Special Edition, All Three Season release. Milch gives a ton of information about the background of this production of Deadwood. if you don't have access to that, check YOUTUBE for some Dave Milch videos. No question that he started with some real people of Deadwood and added his own characters and interactions, he made drama out of history. And it was my understanding from listening to Milch and to a couple of TO interviews, that HBO wanted to continue to be in the David Milch business, but wanted to cut Season 4 of Deadwood down to 6 episodes, because the cost of production was so high and because HBO wanted him to begin another project. Milch would not agree to a shorter season and pulled the plug rather than compromise. I never heard before that there was a lack of viewers. But maybe we were not given the whole story... Anyway, enjoyed this article. I think I'll start re-watching Deadwood again, when Justified ends the season. only 3 more, too soon!

Tim's much better looking than the real Seth Bullock. They really upgraded the guy when they cast Tim.

Deadwood: Stories of the Black Hills by David Milch goes along with the movie and has lots of pictures and anecdotes about the filming etc. Great to have for a fan. It's on amazon.com for 22.00 but there are used copies for under $10.00 and I got a copies for myself and a friend on ebay for $5.00. I think all fans of the show would love it.

On Comcast we have a "watchathon" and I chose Deadwood. OMG Timothy has top billing and that oh so fine sexy walk and the show is GREAT. Love Seth and his anger and his nobility. The language doesn't bother me...did notice TO says the least of the dirty stuff and God as Seth he is great. Just letting you know I love Deadwood.

'book, it is so good to hear from you! I have been wondering how you are doing. Much better, I hope!
If we read a "masterpiece" there may be parts of the book that we don't enjoy as much as others. It's the same way with tv, I think. The cursing was hard for me to get used to and the violence was pretty bad. But these were the times. Deadwood wasn't a pretty place and it brought out the best and the worst in the people who lived there. I thought the story and the acting and the production values were just so great. I have watched it through twice and am sure I will watch it again because to me it IS a masterpiece.
