I have a really strange feeling that the last shot might be Boyd wiping his hands over Raylan's grave at the Harlan farm house, pan out to the Hat on the headstone and the song..
Don't know why, I just think Boyd might prevail. I hope not. I have a secret girly desire for Raylan and Winona to ride off in the sunset, but a super sad ending might be satisfying in some odd way.
What's you last Justified scene?

Since it's one of the cornerstones of the show that people don't change I just picture Raylan sitting across the table from someone - maybe Boyd ( except I think he will go out with bang, literally, before the final episode) - and counting down, ready to draw. Then Art will probably have to transfer him. Raylan WILL get out of Harlan alive. I trust Graham is not stupid enough to close off all avenues for possible future stories/movies but Boyd's love of explosives is going to catch up with him, thus denying Raylan the opportunity to kill him. I don't expect we are going to be seeing much of wInona by season six.
Maybe we should all guess and come back to this thread in two years to see who called it best?

Ava in season 2 decided to essentially put her fate in Boyd's hands. I think she will die in the end. Mostly because after her experience in Harlan prison she would not want to go back. Maybe she won't die at Raylan's gun but Rachel is an option.
As for Boyd, there is no way he's not going out guns blazing as he'd never give himself up.
And Raylan will finally be able to leave Kentucky. He used Ava as an excuse for staying in season 1, then it was Winona and to a lesser extent Boyd keeping him there in season 2. But as it is right now, I think his motivation for staying is to see Boyd dead or in prison. Because ultimately it was his actions that set him free in the first place. Will he be with Winona in the end, I'm at the point of doubting it. But maybe as Natalie said in an interview last year, hopefully they can find peace with each other.
I think they made Jere Burns a regular this season, so they can finish out his arc (kill him or have him flee the country) to facilitate Boyd and Ava's end story which is going to be them actually going fugitive. It's really the only way I see Raylan and the Marshal's going after them.

I see a showdown between Raylan and Boyd, maybe it will be like the ending of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and you won't see which of them is killed, the scene will just fade to the sound of gunfire and THE song.

What I would like to see and what we probably will see, are two different things. LOL.
Yes, the cornerstone of the show is that people don't change, but Ava already has broken that rule, at least once, and an argument could be made that Boyd has also. I think it was Graham or one of the writers who said that this coming season the birth of his daughter has had a profound effect on Raylan (effect=change? in attitude? in actions?) so, I don't necessarily think that 'rule' has to be a determining factor.
I could see the show ending with Raylan leaving Kentucky. Whether that would be to join Winona and his daughter somewhere, or just Art sending him off to be someone else's headache is anyone's guess. I'm holding out hope for some kind of happy ending - if not a traditional one- for my favorite couple, if only because I believe Graham Yost is a romantic at heart.
I could also see the show ending with a close-up of that grave with a new date on it. But, I would hate that, and unlike MCM, would NOT find it satisfying on any level.
Regardless of what Elmore may have believed, people do change and grow and to go through this entire series only to have it end in some kind of twisted tragedy will make the whole thing seem like wasted time. Raylan needs to come out of this alive, at least.

I didn't say I would like it, but a real tear jearker is sometimes a epic. Everyone died at the end of Six Feet Under a that was an awesome show ender. But then again, that was Six Feet Under. LOL.

And in Six Feet Under, which I agree was awesome...they didn't die in the present...the final montage just showed how everyone eventually died. I don't want epic. I want Raylan walking away.

I wouldn't want to see Raylan die. I agree that is something Elmore Leonard would not do.
Here's hoping it's not something GY and writers wouldn't do, either.
Boyd and/or Ava are fair game. So are any single combination of Art, Rachel, and Tim. Although I'd love to see Art retire.
Wasn't Elmore working on another book when he died? With Raylan in the story? They must have some idea of what he had in mind for his character.

What I would love to see: 1. Raylan leaving Harlan, alive and well to be a great father to his daughter, with a new career and a faithful wife. 2. Boyd and Ava escaping from Harlan as well, maybe via witness protection after ratting on all the criminals they've been in bed with for the last few seasons.(Maybe an FX spin off with them trying to live a crime free life, but of course failing miserably).
What I can see happening in reality instead of what I'd love to see: 1. Raylan and Boyd having a final show down, and neither one of them making it out of Harlan alive. 2. Ava paying the ultimate price for following in Boyd's footsteps and spending the rest of her life in prison.

I had such a lousy week and now I am reading all these ideas about the conclusion of Justified...it just makes me sad to ponder it... I'm going to go watch the next episode on our "rewind".

When Justified finally wraps we're all going to need grief counseling. Look at it this way, at least we have each other...and booze...lots and lots of booze.

Had a thought last night- what if it was Raylan and Boyd walking off into the fog...like the end of "Casablanca" - "I think this may be the start of a beautiful friendship...." Boy, what kind of story twist would it take to get them to that point?

I don't have a clue as to what will happen, but I kind of see a show down between Boyd and Duffy at some point. Boyd has never liked to play second fiddle to anyone. Things are going to be hard for Ava.Unless she can get a really good lawyer who can prove that she shot Delroy in self defense, she will be in prison for quite a while. (Would Ellen May testify in her defense? We don't even know where she is right now.) This doesn't bode well for her in the romance department with Boyd. I see both of them living lives of quiet desperation.
So.... will Art retire? Will Raylan take his job? My guess would be no. Will some of our beloved characters be killed off? That would be painful, to say the least. At some point there will have to be a face to face confrontation between Boyd and Raylan. It wouldn't have to result in death. Boyd could, as was suggested, rat out everyone he knows and go into witness protection. But will he give up his criminal ways? It is so ingrained in him to take the low road, I don't know if he could ever lead a lawful life.
Raylan and Winona. Darned if I know. Romeo and Juliet couldn't make it. Tony and Maria couldn't make it. Heathcliff and Cathy couldn't make it until they were dead. I'd like to see a happy ending here, but you can love someone and not be able to live with them. I can really see Raylan being re-assigned and going through the same old dance with Winona. Is his job "safe enough?" Can he commit to being home at five o'clock every night? Will he ever decide to buy a house? We can go round and round about these things. It's anyone's guess what the writers will decide. One thing I do know---Raylan won't die.

I hope your week gets better, pronto! What episode are we on? Thanks, I appreciate that...we'll see. I did read the latest chapter of the fan fiction "it's complicated" story. That made me smile. Last one I wrote about was "When the Guns Come Out" I don't think anyone has written about "The Man Behind the Curtain" yet. I was going to try to do that today. We're a bit behind your original "schedule" I think...but it's a busy time of year. And closer to S5!

We thought this might happen of the holidays. Good news is ... it hasn't been that long since we saw Season 4. Less recapping needs to be done. I'll tray and get caught up today as ... school start Monday already. (But I love it!)
