This is supposedly a new show coming to NBC this fall. It stars James Spader who I think is excellent (and would have made an excellent guest star). The reason I post is that I have now seen a couple of ads that say (paraphrasing) if you like Justified you will like the Blacklist. This seems an odd marketing tactic because on any day the worst NBC shows probably get more viewers than Justified. If you were going to compare you would think it would be to a more well known show!? I can't see any producing connections and we are talking different networks. By it's description it certainly doesn't sound like Justified, so I guess color me intrigued.

I'll tune it. 'Liked Spader ever since the early 90's when I caught him in a movie playing a young Jewish kid who falls in love with his much older white trashy mistress played by...who was it....Susan Sarandon?
He does some interesting things...sometimes...Anyone ever see Secretary. with Spader, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Jeremy Davies? It's the only film I've ever seen Jeremy Davies in where he does not play the weirdest character in the movie.

"the White Palace"- I think was the name of that film with Spader and Sarandon...I don't know if anyone else saw it but us! I thought it was memorable and he was wonderful in it...not the creepy type he is well known for.

I actually owned a copy of "The White Palace." Kind of a good movie. Spader is always great. What was his last series? "Boston Legal?" I can't remember because I'm old and my memory is fried. Anyway,he and William Shatner were so comical in that show. I was sorry to see it end. It was totally beyond the fringe.(I'm not counting "The Office" here. I thought that was kind of a dumb move, bringing Spader in. A waste of his talent.)

I liked Spader very much in 'The Practice.' I dunno. Another show about another anti-hero? Only difference is the show is on network TV? I'm not intrigued.
Am I the only one who is very unexcited about the new drama series this season? For the first time, I'm more interested in the new comedies, than I am new dramas.

This sounds good to me. The character sounds creepy, and I've always found Spader creepy. Can't get the bad taste out of my mouth since I saw him in 'Sex, Lies, and Videotape'. Ewww. My husband watched Boston Legal and loved him and Shatner. The only other dramas that piqué my interest are Hostages, which is a limited run series, and Sleepy Hollow, which is getting surprisingly good reviews. I'll give those a try. Of course, Hostages in on opposite The Blacklist...because that's how TV works.
As for comedies, Brooklyn Nine-Nine looks good, and so does the new one with Robin Williams. The Millers, with Margo Martindale is getting great reviews, too.
We should have a thread for reviewing the shows we've tuned in to.

I think that is a very good idea, a new thread for all the new shows...hoping there is something worth watching! I'm interested in your opinions, as we think so much alike regarding Justified.

I guess I am not so much intrigued by the new show, which I will probably give a one episode tryout, as I am by the marketing tactic of referencing Justified. I wouldn't have thought the show was high profile enough to be used as a benchmark, but obviously somebody at NBC thinks it is.

Unless their is whipcracking, humorous dialog (with a serial killer?) ... I don't get it. My first thought, upon seeing the trailers, is the tie in to Hannibal Cannibal with a female law enforcement foil (in same time period as 'Silence of the Lambs,' which I saw and have no interest in ever seeing again). Btw, I just recently read that Hugh Laurie turned the Spader role down.

I don't remember Jeremy Davies being in it. But in general I always thought young James Spader was sexy. Don't know about him currently because I haven't watched him in anything lately. White Palace was not a bad movie. Not sure if I'll check out Spader's new show. But if they are trying to market it to Justified fans (wtf really?) I may give it a try.

I thought the Blacklist sounded quite interesting, it starts here next week, I'll need to record it, we're off to the South of France on Sunday so I will be missing even more episodes of our Justified re-runs.
