OMG how sad. I mean he was old and all but such a talent gone forever. Glad before he passed he got to see his work so honored by the show Justified. He as very pleased by every aspect....except the hat...and that is for us. My deep sympathy to his family. We shall miss him.

Here is his website: www.elmoreleonard.com/I just realized for the first time today, after seeing this birth and death date on his website, today is my late-father's birthday. RIP Elmore. Happy Birthday, Dad.

thanks for all this Dolphin... You're welcome. (I'm waiting for something this evening and this passing the time. He's all over the news tonight, of course.) Here's a clip that was on the CBS Evening News, although I corrected Bob Shieffer's report about Elmore Leonard not liking adaptations of his work in the Comments section. He was very pleased with the adaptation of 'Fire in the Hole' and gave major props to TO, Graham Yost and all the folks working on Justified. I bet it was because this was CBS reporting and Justified in on FX: www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=50153382n

Thank you for the links, ladies.
Sad news, but at least he was enjoying considerable critical recognition these past few years, much of it related to "Justified" and the Raylan Givens character.

This just in ...Even "Justified," FX's critically-acclaimed drama starring Timothy Olyphant as U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens, hearkens back to a regular Leonard character; the laconic lawman appeared in the novels "Pronto" (1993) and "Riding the Rap" (1995); the 2001 short story "Fire in the Hole" became the basis for the series' pilot, while Leonard's novel "Raylan" just came out in 2012. "Justified" creator Graham Yost, "Justified" star Timothy Olyphant and the rest of the cast and crew issued a joint statement: “We were blessed by the time we got to spend with him and we will miss him. Our thoughts are with his family. Take it easy, Elmore. PS: We wrote longer versions of this statement, but as Elmore always said: leave out the parts people tend to skip.” John Landgraf, chief executive officer of FX Networks, called Leonard a "treasure" and "one of the greatest contemporary American writers" in a statement. "'Justified' was the first television show to successfully translate his work to television," Landgraf added. "Elmore was thrilled by the way in which Graham, Tim and the rest of the 'Justified' creative team brought his characters to life. It was one of his proudest moments, and we are honored to have been a part it. He was a genius, and a gentleman, and he will remain in our hearts." www.today.com/entertainment/elmore-leonards-characters-captivated-hollywood-over-60-years-6C10960194

Ladies, these are such wonderful tributes. What a talented and multi-faceted man. Something really interesting jumped out at me----that he was good friends with the owner of The Mysterious Bookshop in NYC. That is one of the coolest places in the world, at least to me, being a great mystery fan. I can really picture Elmore being in his element there.
The articles included some really nice mentions of his work with Justified, too.
The book catalog that I get and order from regularly listed about eight of his titles in their latest issue---all priced at $4.95. I'm going to snap up a few that I have not read.
Thanks for these great articles.

Charlie Rose had a little piece on Elmore this morning on CBS. There's a part where he's kinda offered a writing job from Rose, and he sounds exactly like Arlo when he says, "What do you pay?" www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=50153403n
