Great description of Raylan! I didn't realize that Jere Burns is so busy on other shows. We're lucky that he has time to devote to Justified.

Somebody send this out on twitter. We need a last push before the votes are tallied. I did, but others please follow suit. It may be drowned out by the Zimmerman verdict. Is that really what Lake Michigan looks like? Gorgeous!

Dolphin, that one is the Mighty Huron, (closest to me) but yes, Lake Michigan looks like that too. I'm leaving 7 days from today for Ontario for a few days on a vineyard perched high on the northern shore of Erie and a day trip to that traitor- Lake Ontario- so 9 year old Kirby's bucket list of surfing all 5 great lakes will be complete. The other dog Hodge has become a good little swimmer too, but he's not a natural swimmer like Kirby. I'll put up pics in the pic thread.

We would love to see pictures! Regarding the article, I was surprised to see many of my current favorites on that list of underrated actors. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau - the incredibly good looking Jamie from Game of Thrones. I like how his character has changed over the seasons. My husband points out that that is also due to good writing. Matthew Rhys from The Americans. As much as I'm not sure I like The Americans, I'm sure Matthew Rhys is a very talented actor. Jennifer Carpenter from Dexter- f*cking love Deb. Joel Kinnaman from The Killing. His acting has improved immensely in this series. Or maybe it's just the writing.

God, Yes, kmmo! I think we watch a lot of the same things. That handsome Dane with the long hair made Jaime seeth with humility last year. At last.
And Jennifer Carpenter- Deb is the bomb. Fucking Fuck balls! is my favorite Deb line. Don't you think she has become even more freakishly skinny since last year? While I fear for her health, what ever she had I wish I would catch it for a while.
I thought Dexter was Fineto after that horrible "Travis Marshall" season; now I'm in till the finale, I am so sick of MCH being nominated, though. He should have won it during the Trinity year, since he didn't, why keep nominating him if he's never going to win it? Same thing with Hamm. Ehh
I just can't understand why the academy voters keep jizzing themselves over Cranston, Hamm and MCH while leaving Olyphant (and Goggins) out. I keep wanting to blame it on FX publicity, or the whole Hillbilly thing? IDK, do people think Justified is Duck Dynasty some moonshiner show? It's infuriating.

I keep wanting to blame it on FX publicity, or the whole Hillbilly thing? IDK, do people think Justified is Duck Dynasty some moonshiner show? It's infuriating. I got into Game of Thrones because of my husband. He's read the books and introduced me to the show. I love those sweeping, grand, character driven fantasies. But I keep having to stop and ask my husband - "wait, who's this guy again?" Dexter is one of my favorite shows. I've even read all of the Dexter books. Yeah, there were some not-so-good seasons, but the good ones made up for it. MCH is sooo good. I'm curious to see what he'll do after Dexter. I hope he finds something fitting for his talent. Jennifer Carpenter does such an excellent job as Deb. My husband and I cracked up when Dex figures out her password. "F*cking password". Perfect. LOL. We don't get Showtime, so my husband goes to Starbucks with his laptop on Mondays and *magically* he comes home with the latest Dexter. I do love Breaking Bad, and I think Cranston is good (and I really love Aaron Paul). But it's time to look at Olyphant and Goggins and give them consideration for their excellent work, too. It is frustrating. I watch Mad Men mostly because my spouse likes it. Several times I've almost given up on it because it can be boring. I don't see the big deal about Hamm. I just don't think he's that good. Elizabeth Moss runs circles around him.

Kmmo, I so agree with your post on BB, Dexter, and Madmen.
Madmen is so frustrating. It had an incredibly sucko season ... and then, right at the end, they pull it out, giving Jon Hamm his 'Emmy submission episode.' You are so right on about Elizabeth Moss. She's an outstanding talent.
When I watched BB last season, I remember thinking FINALLY Anna Gunn is going to get an Emmy nomination AND a win. What she did in the episode where she was trapped in the house with Walter's crazy alter ego, Heisenberg ... the terror she conveyed without so much as uttering a word. And now? No one is mentioning her in their Emmy wish lists? I don't get it.
Yeah, I think it's time for Juliana Margulies and Michelle Dockery to step aside to make room for the new, along with Jon Ham. There are too many other performances out there. Same with Downton Abbey. Hugh Bonneville doesn't deserve to be in the top six for DA's past season. (Elizabeth McGovern and Maggie Smith do.)
I've said this so many times ... The Justified writers could take a lesson from Mad Men. If they would only write one awesome Raylan-centric and Boyd-centric episode per season? I think we'd see these two not only nominated but receiving the statue. I don't think 2 showcase episodes out of a 13 episode season is too much to ask.

Dolphin, you are so right about Anna Gunn. She is very good and we've watched her character grow on BB due to Anna's talent.
I think you're right about Justified needing those Raylan or Boyd- centric episodes for the Emmy. But I don't want the writers to do it just for the Emmy. It seemed on Mad Men like they were presenting Hamm on a platter (haha, ham on a platter) and saying "see, here's our great actor, vote for him". It was kind of obvious. I don't want Justified to do that if it doesn't fit with the story. The whole season needs to flow and not be interrupted by a "here's our Emmy submission episode for X actor". I know it's important to the actors to get an Emmy. But at the cost of the flow of the story, I'd hate to see that. TO should get an emmy for the episode when he finds out Arlo is dead. In my opinion, that was it.

Jere Burns was fun on Burn Notice. The show had gotten stale at least a season before he showed up and he made it a bit fresher. And on Justified? Fah-getta-bout-it. He's unquestionally awesome. I was watching The Shield last night and there was a scene wheretwherethey were playing Russian Roulette with a suspect and when it was over I looked at my boyfriend and said, "Not even close to as cool as Justified." JESUS CHRIST!
I know that Emmy's are a good thing for the actors, producers, for everyone. But the Emmys clearly has a "type" of show they will award and they keep doing the same things over and over. So I say let the Emmys do what they do, and keep Justified doing what they do best- making a kickass show. I agree that no one on the shoe should change things up bc they want an Emmy. What they're doing right now works and when the Emmys realize that, yahoo! Until then, keep the course and wait until the tide changes- don't change with the tide.

And it got him an Emmy nomination. 'Reckoning' was the very first episode of Justified I ever saw. It was so well done. LOL I discovered it only because of my Kyle Chandler Emmy competition reconnaissance project. I'm so glad I took on that little project and discovered TO and Justified ... and all of you. That project also got me to eventually watch Breaking Bad, Mad Men and Dexter, although none of those leads do anything for me in the swoon department.

I'm glad you discovered TO and Justified, too, Dolphin. And you're right, those other shows are of excellent quality, but they don't have Tim Olyphant. I would love to see a Raylan-centric episode in the next season. I just don't want it to be that obvious "we're trying for an Emmy here".
Yes, Reckoning was a good Raylan-centric one. I think I've only seen that once. I will have to watch it again.
lbookie- you're right. The Emmy's do seem to have a favorite kind of show. Maybe Justified is just too gritty and real for them.

I love that episode. That scene where he comes to Ellen May looking for Dickie and she's high as a kite.... love that. There's been a ficlet about that scene rattling around in my head ever since it aired. I never have the time to sit down and try to write it.
