He must be thinking of all those college tuition bills headed his way. LOL. Either that, or shoring up for his post-Justified career. Whichever...we win. ;-)
It does seem like a lot to do in one summer, but his role in 'This is Where I Leave You', isn't a lead, and they often film out of sequence to allow actors other work. I am wondering if the other weird western flick might be stuck in development hell. That one doesn't appeal to me as much, so I wouldn't be heartbroken if it fell through.

Hmmmm I think I wanna see them ALL! The weird western actually sounds like more fun than this new one, but they all have possibilities.
The Man on the Carrion Road is being filmed Medillin, Colombia so keep your fingers crossed!

Wow! Back to back film projects leading straight into the fifth season of "Justified." What has stirred TO's creative juices and desire to work? We could speculate endlessly, but I'm happy to accept the unexpected gift. ;D
This latest project does sound a bit conventional--- and cheap. A lot will probably depend on who they cast as the former sheriff and the cartel head. Will the older actor have good screen chemistry with TO? Not having seen the screenplay, but basing my opinion on a lifetime of movie watching, the old lawman role holds more potential for color and richness of character than TO's role. Will the cartel head be appropriately formidable or (dare we hope) complex? TO works his magic best when playing opposite talented actors playing strong, complex characters (Goggins as Boyd, McShane as Swearengan, etc). Or will it just be a violent, stylized, low budget shoot 'em up?
I too am looking forward to "the weird western." It has grown on me. Plus I just want to see TO and Kurt Russell together. (*lust fantasy fullfilled. Check*)

I think I'm more intrigued by this one. I don't think I fit the demographic for the 'weird western,' but of course I'll have to check it out if only to see TO.
TO plays great against Nick Searcy or Jim Beaver. (Ian McShane was so rightfully mentioned.) TO will be awesome.
Who would you like to see cast as the retired sheriff? How about a Jeff Bridges type? Or Ed Harris? Or Harrison Ford, Jon Voight?
Or my dream casting with TO ... Clint Eastwood (maybe a little too old for this flick, but I can dream).

I wouldn't mind Harrison Ford or Ed Harris, but (sigh!) Sam Elliot would be perfect!!

Clint Eastwood (maybe a little too old for this flick, but I can dream). Eastwood is never too old to play an old, former lawman. Clint and TO together----- priceless. But wouldn't the audience be waiting for the final reel revelation that TO's character is Clint's love child by some former flame? Ed Harris (awesome, powerful, uber masculine actor) or Jeff Bridges (fun) are great choices. I'd like Harrison Ford too, if he doesn't phone it in the way he did Cowboys Vs Aliens (a movie I enjoyed otherwise). Yes, Sam Elliott was born to play western heroes. Tom Berenger is another possibility. I suppose Nick Nolte could fill the role too, but he wouldn't be my first choice. (I have no idea why he and Jon Voight inspire feelings of indifference in me. Yet I do recognize those occasions when they are especially good, such as Nolte in Warrior.)

I think Sam Elliot would be a terrific foil for Tim

Definitely add Sam Elliott to the wish list. He should be one of the top contenders. I wouldn't have even thought of Tom Berenger had it not been for 'Hatfields and McCoys.' He would be good. I do know what you mean about Nick Nolte and Jon Voight. When they're on, they are dead on. And when they are off ... they're painfully bad. But wouldn't the audience be waiting for the final reel revelation that TO's character is Clint's love child by some former flame?Kentuckygal, that is priceless. Next, we need to cast the drug lord.

I vote for Sam Elliot as the retired Leo....I love his cowboy style... Or Tom Selleck even, who does a phenomenal job with the Jesse Stone Character..... For the cartel bad guy, Antonio Bandares would be good opposite TO....And he can be funny too, like TO always likes to find the funny...Antonio was fantastic opposite Sylvester Stallone in Assassins....Also, either of the guys from the Mummy - Arnold Vosloo or Oded Fehr could be badass too and yet somewhat likeable or funny in their own way....I so hope they don't screw it up n put some dumbass fame seeker new up n coming in there that is self centered...TO is good with anybody, but that would just tank the potential this movie could have for being really ententertaining.....

This is great news. Tim's acting makes even not-so-great movies worth watching. If it's well written, it could be rather good.

While I'm always happy to hear about potential new TO material...I'm with LJ on the topic that I'm wayyy over due on seeing Tim in a romantic leading role. Quickly, before he'd too old!
Another Sheriff? We know Tim isn't afraid of being typecast, but geese, another sheriff???
One of the articles says
"The Man on Carrion Road will start production at the end of August in Medellin, Columbia."
How in the hell is that going to work with the Justified schedule?
And in the Southern Continent? What is Mexico so dangerous now that they've got to go to Columbia to shoot? LOL .

I've got to agree with LJ and mcm. Let's see Timothy as something other than a lawman for a change. We know he can do that kind of role in his sleep and do it very well. But we need to see him s-t-r-e-t-c-h. He also does the enigmatic character role beautifully. But we need to see him in a romantic leading role, if only to satisfy our unrealistic longings! Come on. He can do it!
