I'm now a grandmother! Brenna Michelle was born on 4/4/14, 6 lbs. 12 oz. My daughter, L'il Dolphin, had a horrible 36 hour induced labor with a brutal forceps delivery. The baby is a-okay wonderful with the exception of a bruise on her temple that is fading. My daughter, however, has had some really bad complications. Prayers for her complete recovery are welcomed. I did see the finale! Loved it. I'll be back around posting on the board, once my girl is okay and released from the hospital.

I was thinking and worrying about lil' dolphin and her health since you were away for so long. Why didn't they just do a C-section with her health history? I can't imagine how that must hurt. I am an UBER SISSY when it comes to that part.
But...the end result is lovely and with a lovely name too.

She's beautiful Dolphin, what a precious baby girl...Love the name too... My thoughts n prayers are with your daughter too...May she have a speedy recovery....First baby??? Sometimes, first timers have it so difficult...I've seen this all too often in my profession....Personally, when I respond to L&D calls, I secretly pray it's a mother having another baby, less complications most of the time the more kids a woman has..Babies usually come quicker n I gotta be on point n ready for anything, but first timers have such long labors n excruciating pains more then normal...I feel bad cause all I can do is make them comfortable as possible....
I hope Lil Dolphin gets better soon....She's lucky to have a good Mom like you to take care of her....All best wishes to all....CONGRATULATIONS!!!

What a pretty newborn! Mine both looked like Baby Bandit mugshots! A very pretty name, too!
I, too. had a long first labor but they finally decided to do a Caesarian. I hope your Dolphin Daughter is up and about soon. It's a very scary time for you, I'm sure. Let us know when she's out of danger.

Dolphin, you have a beautiful little grand-baby. Congratulations to all. I hope your daughter is feeling much better soon. My niece suffered a tear in her birth canal and a broken tailbone with her first. Poor thing couldn't sit for a month. She had five family members taking turns around the clock with her for weeks. Hopefully your daughter is on the mend and can enjoy the little one. I'm sure you'll be a wonderful help to her like my mom was to me. This is a time when moms are really important and VERY appreciated!

I used to tell my mums that at their "parenting" classes.....accept help from all quarters, do NOT be independent. Mums are a great source of help and advice and can be invaluable. I am sure you will be much appreciated Dolphin.

Thank you, thank you for all of the good wishes. MCM, you echo what we ask every day. Why didn't they do a C Section? L'il Dolphin was a C Section for very similar reasons. (We think it was because one shift waited too long to call it before another shift came on. Then, it was too late as she'd been pushing longer than she should have.) My daughter is improving in some ways, but had a setback today in another. She's a trooper ... we'll give her another week before we seek another opinion. In the meantime, grand baby Dolphin is doing so well and was spared any complications from the forceps delivery. Here are a few pics of her taken by a photographer a few days ago for her birth announcement. Just scroll down to the entries pics under the date, April 11, 2013. rebekahshay.blogspot.com/She is so much fun and brightens my daughter's and SIL's day ... every day. I look forward to coming home and catching up on all things TO I've missed. (Saw he was cast in a new film w/ensemble cast. And of course, I saw the season finale. WOW!)

Thanks again, all. Awww, thanks, MCM. I will.
Mondays, please do recommend the photographer, Shayla. She was wonderful. She came to my daughter's apartment in Baltimore for a 3-hour newborn shoot, allowing time for feeding, etc. (She likes to do the newborns when they are under 2 weeks old. You tentatively schedule the shoot close to due date, and she'll work with you as the actual birth date approaches.)
Shayla supplied all the props and backgrounds. Her style is vintage, antiques (she collects antique fabrics, laces ... of course this shoot was for a little girl. She does sweet little boy shoots, too.). She was very reasonable and professional. You own the photos. She's an RN and does her photography business on her off days. She has a sweet and gentle way with babies. (Another RN, workmate of my daughter highly recommended her and has hired Shayla for several of her child's photos.) We would HIGHLY recommend her, too. Fantastic experience.

Awww. Wittle ankle. Congrats Dolphin! How's your daughter doing now? Can't wait for Grandma Dolphin to pic spam us as baby grows. Of all things, she has bladder involvement ... concerning because my daughter donated a kidney in a domino swap 2 years ago so that her husband could receive a kidney (and he did ... is doing well). It's embarrasing, cumbersome, something a new mom could definitely do without. I think she'll be okay, but we've been told it's going to take awhile as the bladder was bruised (or worse) during delivery. We're trying to hold a good thought. She also had to have a blood transfusion due to blood loss. Her blood labs are looking much better now. Now that I'm no longer there, I will be at the mercy of my daughter and SIL to send pics. They take them. They upload them. But then, they are so tired taking care of new baby ... not much happens to them after that. I will have to be patient for pics. And thanks, Kenuckygal!!!

Dolphin, I'll keep her in my prayers..That's a rough time she's going through...But I'm sure you have passed on some strength n wisdom to her, she'll do just fine...Babies tend to kick bladders a lot while inside...I kicked my mom's gall bladder so hard , she had to have it removed after I was delivered...Lol, I was a nightmare pregnancy for my poor Mom...I was 17days late n they had to induce my introduction into the world...I refused to come outside n play...lol...And it was one of the hottest summers on record, so she tells me... lol...So I know your daughter will be okay....

Thank you for the prayers. I think and hope she will be okay too, with time. The concern with my daughter is use of catheters (for 2 weeks and may have to happen longer) and increased chance of infection. She donated a kidney 2 years ago and of course now has only one. She can't afford an infection. This is what makes her situation unique. I wish it wasn't. We have a spare kidney for a reason. Also, the labor and delivery dept. still has control of her case ... she needs to be released from their care and referred to a specialist. (No offense to them, but they don't know what they're doing in the realm of bladders and kidneys ... not their specialty.) That 'release of care' should happen today. Wow, you did give your mom heck! I'm sure she tells you were worth it. Grand Dolphin is worth it, too. UPDATE:She was released from Labor and Delivery today and referred to a specialist for follow up. And she is doing better. Whew!
